Going to switch to a 195* therm based on some of the input I've read and run a 75/25 mix per Craig. Also going to go to an elect. fan. I'm gonna get as much as I can to fit the stock rad. and should pull somewhere between 14-1700 cfm. Recommendations on fans fitting stock rad. are welcome. Now for the "electrics". Do I buy the wiring kit that taps into the intake or the probe setup that slides into the radiator? Why or why not.

Either one accomplishes the same thing. It's really only a matter of personal preference/budget.
 
I'm leaning toward the probe in the radiator for simplicity more or less but was wondering of the reliablility factors. I think you're running the probe type. No issues with it?
 
My fans are setup to mount to the tabs on the side of the radiator, should work on a stock unit. Mine has two fans, one is on constant when key is on and the other kicks on at a set temp. The set temp uses the probe and has a dial to set it. (BTW- thats the wrong radiator in the picture, first one they sent was to tall) The fan setup covers the fins completely on the correct radiator.

I'm running a sensor (similar to the intake mounted instrument sensor) that screws into a sleeve that's inserted into the lower radiator hose.
 
I have the temp prob in the radiator and the fan comes on at 185 and off at 160, seams to be working fine. I am now running 25/75 antifreeze/water with WaterWetter and my 2500 CFM pusher and it's been near 90 this week. No more running hot sitting still. Oh I put on a 16 psi cap too.
 
Is it really necessary to run electric fans? Is the east coast that much hotter or whatever as compared to the west coast where most of us do not use electric fans?
 
I'd look at a junkyard fan from a V6 contour. 1500cfm doesn't seem like nearly enough...I think the Centaur units pull over 3000cfm :D

Deez guise pretty much have the electrical part nailed....run a bottle of Water Wetter if your gonna run a weak antifreeze solution, it probably could use a little help in the corrosion department.
 
Talk about kicking somebody when they're down. I'll give a pass to the newer guy but expected more from you Craig. Did I not send you a pic of my engine...on a stand....tore down?

I would have thought that engine would be back in the car already. It can't break down till it's running again.....sheesh.
 
Na, taking a break. Sent the heads with a guy to a machine shop and told him I was in no hurry. Wanted to do some hunting, clean up some things in the engine bay, and just get my mind off the car for a little. Actually I just wanted to be more like you but instead of putting it on stands I went with "Jake's reverse rake" look.
 
hahahaha Come on Duane, no proof without pics. Besides, its often imitated, but never duplicated. I was able to do mine, with the motor still in the car.

The electric fan in the following article is a direct fit. The aluminum radiator is the exact dimension of an original. (so please disregard the radiator part of the write up since you are going original) So...to mount this fan on a 65 stock you would un bolt original fan, then take the 4 mounting bolts for your radiator and set them to the side, drop in the electric fan and use the same 4 bolts to mount through the same holes to mount BOTH the old radiator and the new fan with the same bolts using the same holes, simple as that. This fan fits the radiator shroud to the "T" with the same holes. Just an idea.

The Fan is 3 1/16th thick if you need to know for your application.
Those are 4 rubber flaps you see so the air can pass through the radiator at the corners to assist in air flow completely. This is HIGH quality with caution stickers not shown.

As a side note:You can see the Ron Morris Lower conversion tube for a serpentine kit with a standard passenger side radiator in out. This was my desired application as to not worry about lower tube innerspring or collapsing issues.
Also shown is a new 3G Alternator conversion with a PA Performance Regulator dummy to keep the use of my Alt warning lamp with a 3G Alternator. Not clearly pictured is the 4 Gage 200Amp. Power Link Fuse from PA Performance to protect my electrical system.

Wasn't it Duane that repeatedly rebuild his carb because his brakes weren't working or something like that?
 
Yeah, some dumba$$ swayed his thought process on that one.
