Damaged cell phone...

OKay so my son drops my LG LX370 cell phone which I just got last Oct through Sprint. The screen is shattered and is totally useless. I contact Sprint and since I don't have insurance all I can do is buy a new phone for $200. Other option are start another line and get the carrot deal on a new phone but still need to pay two years on a another line which would cost $240 for a year anyway so whats the savings.

So...can I buy the same phone from a E-Bay source and still use it? Do you think a used phone is a decent bet? I can get one for $74.
How do I get it to work? Save all my numbers?

Thanks for any help.

Having gone through this several times with my son, and since dear old dad tries his damdest to teach some accountability in other words he loses it he pays for it. I have gone the eBay route the last two times and it has worked for me. You will need to purchase a new Sim card from somewhere or your provider most time I have had them just give them too me. Lately I have seen better pricing on Craig's list

Sprint phones do not use SIM cards. You can find a "sprint" phone on ebay or craigslist etc. You would call Sprint and ask them to change your phone service to the new number (DEC, EMU, its the number under the battery). Realize that with sprint, if you add a new line, you can not change your service to the new phone for like 30 days after the account is activated.

Make sure that the new number hasn't been blacklisted. I.E. someone says his phone has been stolen to get a new one through insurance, and then sells the old one. Once a phone has been put on the blacklist, it is either a parts phone or an expensive paper weight.

He'll just transfer his current number/account to this new phone when he activates it under Sprint.

I plan on using the same phone number. So why do I need to tell Sprint anything? Don't I just take some card out of the old phone and slip it in the new one? Is there more that I need to do?
It will be the same model phone as the broken one.

I don't know this but I suspect they will have to enter in the new phones serial Number and such to correspond with the differnt phone...............................However like most things in my life I could be totally wrong :amaz

At least with Verizon, you are correct. That is why it's important to get a phone that does not have a bad ESN Number.

Sprint doesn't use a sim card like ATT and verizon. To get their phones to work, you have to give them the ESN number and they push whatever info is needed to work to it. At least, that's how I remember it back when I had Sprint. You'll probably have to take it to a store.

my wife has AT&T and changes phones like her shoes, all she does is switch the SIM card. But as has been said Sprint doesn't work that way... :cry

+1 but you can call in too. Saves a trip to the store, and customer service can just activate any phone with a clean esn. Plus it save the bull chit work for the commission based employees.
