Day at the shop

At work we have a strange floating holiday on our B-day this year so I had yesterday off and spent the day helping my buddy work at his shop. Learned a bunch but also snapped a few pictures in the process.

First thing we did was block sand this Z car. If you look careful you can see a Vette that was primed yesterday and guide coat added. Pretty bad azz little car.

Next thing we did was block sand this '65. Ironically, I referred the owner of this car to the shop. I don't know the guy he just saw me driving my car one day and asked who did my paint, LOL! Yes, that is my Trans Am in the background....

Didn't do anything to this one yesterday but this one is for the truck guys

This one is pretty cool. No reproduction parts available for this one so the guy that works for my buddy made this side's quarter panel from scratch.

Had fun, learned a lot but it was hotter than heck yesterday.

Just helping to learn. Body work is something I really need to learn more about because if I can eventually get the Trans Am pretty much ready to shoot when it shows up there some day down the road it will save me a lot of labor time (i.e. labor costs) sanding it myself, etc. Also not a bad arm workout to block sand a couple of cars in one day, LOL!

Towards the end of the day we threw the TA up on jack stands for about 30 minutes and did a few minor adjustments but nothing major. Just a few things I wanted to get a second set of eyes on to size up for future projects, etc.
 
What year is that T-bird? I had a 67 four door model that I made some money on in a demolition derby. I still have the tail light panel and the set of hubcaps from it (it had 66 hubcaps)....

Cool cars but wow. lots of vacuum hoses in them!

Probably not.

Story on that one is the owner has had it sitting for years. His daughter fell in love with it so they have been working on it for a while. Converting to fuel injection, overdrive, adding power windows, etc. It required a good deal of metal work before they painted it a while back.

It's coming along slowly. My buddy was telling me to get rid of the vent windows for one solid window in the doors required some major surgery to the inside of the doors. It's coming along though....they are working on putting the interior in. The motor and trans are already installed. The owner is wanting to do some of the work himself and comes in on Fridays a lot to work on it under my buddy's guidance.

That's bassackwards. I want to put wind wings on all cars
 
That T-Bird is 67-69 vintage. I seem to remember, though, that one or two years, there was no window behind the doors.

It's a Tudor Landau model bird. That small quarter window would place it as a '67 or '68. The '69 (only) Tudor Landau was the one that you're thinking of without that quarter glass.

I would put my money on 1968, because I can see the rearview mirror stuck to the windshield. Or was that only Mustang that started that in 68?
My parents had a 68 Tbird with a little 'ol 428 under the hood. They sold it when I was 14 and replaced it with a cheby caprice.

The '67 had the "floating" rearview mirror also (good eye BTW!). Two telltale signs between the '67 and '68 are front side marker lights and size of the trim moldings (the '67 are taller). Since the front fender is off using that as a guide is out of the question. Based on the size of the molding clips visible, I'd guess it's a '67. That's a really hard call though!

RR, don't keep us in suspense. For :censored sake, find out what year the bird is!!! LOL
