Decoding cast number

From what I can read
D9OE-6018-E3A
D9-1979
O-Fairlane/Torino
E- engine
6018-engine part number
No idea what the e3a is. Design change number?

My car came with a 5.0 from an 87 Lincoln, a trans from an old bronco, and a rear end from a mustang II. It was a manual 6 banger before it was molested by various previous owners.

The 8 should be a 5. Any chance the 5 was damaged in the casting?

I all I know is this is how it was when I purchased it. Not bummed at all, I think I can really make some awesome horsepower out of it. Thanks Giqantopithecus, I didn't know the O= fairlane/torino. I am going to do some more research on this engine.

The "O" only means which model originated the design of the base motor and doesn't mean at all that this particular engine came from a Fairlane or a Torino. In fact, by 1979, there were no Fairlanes or Torinos.
