A buddy and I were mushroom hunting on a farm sunday when he came on a cow laying in a creek about 2 feet deep, we thought at first she was stuck but then thought she might be sick, we called the farmer and he said he couldn't be there for an hour, we went on mushrooming and he called when he got there, we then proceded to pull, push, use a come a-long and tow straps to get her out of the creek(2 hours worth), we got her on the bank but she wasn't standing, she must have had trouble having a calf and maybe pinched nerves or something and layed in the cold water for a long time, the calf was gone and we left while he was getting hay to put up against her and was going to shoot her with antibiotics. I don't think she will make it but at least we can say we tried, we were covered in mud clear to our waist, the warm shower felt great, I talked to my buddy today and no word on the cow yet, also we both commented about how stiff and sore we were! And no we didn't take pictures.

Hmmmmm....stranded cow, no pictures.....and shroom hunting!!!!! Could it have been "shroom consuming".

Good deeds always feel good....

Good job Rod, it's the quickest way to get/stay on the good side of farmers/ranchers :10

Had a similar thing happen when I was growing up. Our neighbors didn't count their land in acres, but rather in sections. And we had permission to ride our horses any where on their land - with only 2 rules: 1. leave gates the way we found them, and 2. let 'em know if we saw any problems. One day we came across a cow that had gotten stuck in a old watering hole that was more of a mud pit. Being before cell phones, we turned around and went to the rancher's house and let me know what we found. Luckily it wasn't too remote, and there were pickup trails, so he was able to get a tractor back there to lift out the cow.
