Dipstick help

My new motor I bought doesn't gave a dipstick port on the timing cover. Other than taking it and my old engine apart is there a fix?

Thanks
Greg

Is there a hole mid way on the block side, near the oil pan. It may have a plug in it.

The dipstick tube hole in the side of the block isn't really a fix, unless you're using a late model 5.0 double sump pan. Sounds like you have a late model timing cover also. There should be a flat boss on the right side, where you'd find the older dipstick location. If so, you can drop the pan and drill a new hole for an original dipstick tube. I wouldn't suggest trying to drill it with the pan on. Metal shavings in the pan won't do your new motor any good! ;)

If you look at everything involved in drilling a new hole, I'm actually in favor of handling it just like you did! ;)
