I don't know what it is with me and distributors. I got the new hei dist in and got the engine to tdc and it dropped right in. Thought it was maybe off just a little so pulled it up slightly to turn rotor back to drop back in and I cannot get the dang thing to go in for nothing now! :rant I tried the old Johnpro trick of bumping the starter while pushing down and it still wouldn't go in. So now I get to pull a valve cover to get back on tdc. The dang oil pump drive just doesn't want to stay in the center of the hole. It is still in the oil pump, just stubborn to stay in the middle. Any trick to making it stay lined up long enough to stab this thing? I know, I know...stang just hates cheby looking things being inserted into it's orifice...lol :wtf

Well, I thought I had it lined up! Took off the old coil and wired the hei up. Hit the key and it fired right up! Better check the oil gauge...oh s*it! No pressure! :rant I put electric autometer gauges in the gauge cluster years ago before this stuff was available to do it easily now. I know the gauge is good. Just crap, how in the heck does that little piece of spaghetti manage to slip out of the hole? When I assembled the '90 5.0 HO, I made sure that damn little thingy that holds the shaft in was pushed up to keep it from coming out. I have had two different dist. in and out and not had a problem. So the oil pan comes off next time I am off. :bomb I now understand all these "barn" and "woods" and "chicken pen" finds of the old classic cars...lol I am so tempted to push this thing off into the damn woods right now...lol :roul I like the way the chevy has the slot for the dist. to slip into like a flat head screwdriver. None of this odd to line up hex mess. I can stick a screwdriver into the chevy hole and line it right up. Just have to crawl into the engine bay to do it. I have wondered why the Ford engineer did not make that where it would stick up quite a bit more to make installation of the dist. easier. Well, some ya win and some ya lose. :shee

I am pulling the dist. when I get home this evening. What are the chances that the oil pump shaft drive is messed up or the dist. is messed up or bent from not engaging the drive. I did use the dist clamp to pull it down about an 1/8" to seat it. Damn I hate dropping the oil pan to fool with this stuff. I am getting too dang old to crawl around under there...lol (56 in a couple of months, ain't no youngster anymore) If I can't do it from the seat of my old Ford tractor anymore, I just don't feel like doing it a'tall :shee (besides the dang neck hurts when I have to reach up to do something overhead like that) :rant
