Distance between clutch and brake pedal pads?

Does anyone have a measurement of the distance between the clutch and brake pedal pads? Its for a 70. From my T56 thread, the pedals seem to be quite a ways apart and need some reassurance that it is correct. Thanks!

The distance between your pedals does appear to be more than usual.... I noticed it when viewing your other thread. I've got my 66 and my son's 68 in the garage and for reference I'll measure them this evening.

It's better to have them too far apart than too close together.

Yeah when I put it in I scratched my head thinking it surely isn't supposed to be that far apart. Starting off with a bent clutch pedal, I bent it so the main arm was vertical (when mounted to the hanger) and then proceeded to bent the bottom sections so that the pedal pad is roughly the same height as the brake pedal pad. Similar to what you did Joe except I was able to do it without heat.

Sluggo (or someone with a 70 and manual trans), could you take a few measurements to help me figure out what is out of whack? Center to center of the arms just above the pads, clear distance between pads, and maybe a center to center measurement of the pedal arms close to the hanger (that would be easy to compare)??? This will give me guidance on if the pedals are correct up near the hanger, and then to check if its just the pedals that are bent or what. Also, is the main arm of the clutch pedal pretty much vertical when installed??

What I started out with:

Notice how the main arm of the clutch pedal is angled towards the brake pedal? I straightened it out so that it was more vertical, assuming that is how it's supposed to be

It also looks like the manual brake pedal has more of a bend to it when compared to my automatic pedal. Bending the auto brake pedal more to better match the other pedal angle would be the pad closer to the clutch pedal pad.

I found this one on ebay:

If you take a straight line from the end of the brake pedal pin (for M/C rod) down to the pad it lands right where the arm meets the pad. Doing this for my brake pedal it looks like its about an inch off. It appears my brake pedal needs "tweaked" too. If someone could give me a rough distance between the pads, I'll be bending my other freshly painted pedal :fbomb :fbomb :fbomb

It all depends upon the size of our shoes. Are you a clown? If so, wider would be better! :rp

....they wear big socks :lol

I went out and measured the pedals. I have 2.75" between the two metal pads and measure exactly 6" from the center to center of the arms where they show above the pads. Just below the hanger metal, I measure exactly 4" from center to center of pedal arms. If anyone has time, let me know which measurement is off and by how much. Muchas gracias!

I can't get to the car right now. I thought I had some pics in the gallery after I put my pedals in but cant find them.

Yep, remember that thread quite well. There isn't any measuring going on, just some pictures. Bruno mentioned 2" but he bent his pedals too.

I measured mine tonight. the distance between the two arms at the end where the pedal pads are welded on is 4". i figured that would be a good true measurement as the brake pedal is a cut down auto pedal that hasn't been trimmed yet for rubber cover fitment. neither pedal has been bent as far as the arms go & were in excellent shape. if you need any other measurements or pics, let me know. everything is still bolted up on my firewall section i use on the bench for mockup purposes.

Thanks!! Could you measure the distance center to center of the arms just below the hanger steel? Go ahead and grab the measurement between the pads just in case. If I'm measuring 6" and you are measuring 4" (assuming you measured center to center of the arms), that means I have to make up 2". If I have 2.75" between pads, then that would only leave me with 0.75" of clearance if I try to bend the pedal to obtain the 4" arm-to-arm.

Let me know if you are measuring the distance between the pedals (clear distance) or center to center.

i was measuring free space between, at the very end of the arms behind the pedal pads. i'll have the other measurements next trip in the house..
