do I have 8" or 9" differential in my mustang?

is there a way to tell if I have an 8" or 9" differential in my 66 GT mustang? according to something I read, supposedly the hipo's came with the 9" rear end. But in the pics I've found on the internet they look pretty much identical. While it's out of the car, I've drained the old oil and am trying to figure out the capacity for refilling... the 9" takes more than the 8", and I'm not sure how much to put back in. maybe I just level the yoke out and fill till it just starts to run out the plug?

bear with me, I'm still learning on this thing...

There's an easy way to tell the difference between an 8- and 9-inch pumpkins. Can you get a socket on the bottom to nuts that hold the differential to the housing? On an 8-inch you can get a socket on, but with a 9-inch you have to use a wrench.

thanks for the info! based on the fact that I can get socket on all the pumpkin bolts, it's an 8". based on the tag info in tarafied's link above, it's a 3.00 non-posi unit. at least now I know what I am dealing with...

man, I learned a lot today ! I think I have earned a beer ! many thanks for the help.
