Start/stop tech has got to be one of the most asinine things done to cars these days. My SIL came for the weekend in it and had me drive her, Deb and the other sister around town, but failed to mention that the f'n car would shut off when you come to a stop and hold the brake (stop signs, lights, etc...). Freaked the shit out of me when it did it the first time. After that, it just irritated me to no end. The stupid ass things car companies will do to try and get an extra MPG. No frack'n way will I buy a new car with that BS.

Actually, I think it may be a 2016. It's my FIL's new car and just picked it up. (he's retired from Ford)

I drove a 2015 F150 with it that belongs to my sisters boy friend. If you ease the brake off a bit as you stop, you can get to a point where it will not shut off. Also, turning the wheel or being on a hill cancels it. Also, if it detects you will need the a/c or heat at a stop, it stays running. There is also a way to shut it off......every time you start the vehicle. So many new vehicles come with it now.

I just wonder how the starter will hold up.

I tried to beat it fom the brake to the gas but was unable to hit the gas before the truck started.

Not a fan of it at all. Glad my 11 F150 does not have it.

If you disconnect the backup battery , The start /stop system wouldn't be activated .

Yes but it defaults back to on every time you shut it off.
Yes , thats right.
But you can override the Start/Stop-system by disconnecting that little backup battery , I think.
And there is a chance you won't get a fault on the instrument cluster.
I found this out on a certain model of mercedes. I think it was a B-class.

I've had a few cars with that feature as rental cars and I agree it is annoying. Also most cars now have an electric parking brake which won't activate unless the car is in park and foot is on the brake. Makes playing in the parking lot a lot more challenging. Also traction control turns back on after a short time. I don't like my cars thinking for themselves!

What? I don't get it. Like a TDI diesel VW Lupo with start/stop? All VW's with "Bluemotion" use start/stop technology. More prevalent in Europe than here but they have it.

I've had two rentals with this stupid feature. CANNOT get used to it. Freaks me out every time I stop. Long term this can't be good for the engine/starter. Seriously, how much fuel is saved vs sitting at idle for the extremely small percentage of time an operating car is at rest?
