Drove the car around the block

Got the car back from the dyno today, unloaded it, and took it around the subdivision and stopped at a gas station to fill up the tank with high test.

Fuel gauge works, shows full, although it reads E when it has about 1/3 tank in it. Will need to adjust that.

Brakes are a little soft, power steering felt great, alignment felt good so far, and I have a clunking/thumping that I noticed at low speed. I'll have to have a good look through the front end, maybe a loose wheel bearing or something.

Anyhow, I'm getting there! I'm within a week or three of having it on the road for real.
 
First of all, you know the rules. Second, back from the dyno? That's it??? No more info than that??????
 
He doesn't have any more info on it since him and Craig are sharing the same car. :lol

Dudes, I was sitting at the gas station and reached in my pocket to get a cell phone camera shot and realized I was so excited when I left the house that I forgot my camera.

Good thing I didn't need to call home for a rescue!

About the dyno...

Its only half done. The first pull the secondaries wouldn't open. Did some adjusting, second pull the clutch was slipping when the secondaries kicked in. Guy also said it has a miss on one cylinder. I have posts on both topics. He said he could fix them both, but at $125 an hour shop labor, I figured I could at least try. He charged for half a tune and said to bring it back when I'm ready for the other half.

Dyno was at 221 hp when the clutch slipped on the second pull. Nothing exciting.

If it were me, I'd live with this minor issue.... and actually I do on my car. Consider the 1/3 tank as your "reserve". Getting the fuel gauge to work properly at all fuel levels is sometimes a cumbersome task. You have to keep draining your tank, removing and adjusting the sending unit arm, refueling, etc., etc. in order to get it perfect. If the sending unit seal on your tank isn't leaking, the guage reads full when the tank is full and the gauge reads empty when there's 5 gallons remaining.... sometimes "close enough" is good enough and IMO this is one of those cases.

I thought it worked great. Used to be I would get some gas in there and stop with a rush of gas over the bumper. Then I'd put more in and would stop with a rush of gas over the bumper. Repeat a good 3-4 times.

Yesterday I filled it all the way up, it clicked off at full, and I got a tiny bit of splash back. It took 14 gallons, I had previously put in 4 gal from a jug, so I guess I used up 2 gal with the initial fill of the lines and bowls and playing with the carb.

I'll second this. I've got the exact situation. 16 gallon tank, gauge reads "E", it takes 10 gallons to fill it. I'll let it get to "E" and know I need to start looking for gas vs. going through all the fuel drain crap again.

I had the same issue. When I replaced my fuel harness. It worked almost perfect. I guess the resistance of that 40 year old wiring caused the problem.

Just somewhere else to look.
 
The only original wiring left on my car is the wiring harness on the back of the instrument cluster and the headlight pigtails. Instrument cluster wiring is still soft/good condition, headlight pigtails will get replaced with a relay harness.

At least the gauage works, and I have a trip odometer. Assuming I get some reliably consistant gas mileage, I'll have a pretty good idea of when I need to fill up.
