The side that goes around the widest point of the AOD shifter is a little lower than I would like (to the right in the 1'st pic), but they did a great job overall and I am very pleased. Kept everything 2.5" all the way. Much quieter at low throttle but open 'er up and the dynomax vt's will raise some hell! He did install the bungs for the efi project and just put a screw in plug in them for now. After 15 years or so of rusty and noisy as hell exhaust...free at last! :yah I have to go back and cover the wiring that is to the right in the 2'nd pic. I had to move the electric fuel pump off the frame rail to above the differential so he would have room to do the exhaust/mufflers back there. I had to move it in a hurry too. He looked at everything one afternoon and I had to zoom home and move/remount all the wiring/pump/filter/hoses out of the way. Then went back the next a.m. and he did the work. I had to return (week later) to get the chrome rolled tips installed as he had to order the 2.5" . Maybe this will help anyone who is looking at putting an AOD into a '66. AOD is one wide sob! :soap
 
I have an AOD in the daughter's 65 coupe and don't remember any real exhaust issue. Maybe it was wider as compared to other transmission applications.
 
I'm probably just a little nervous as I had knocked the old stuff off a couple of times on speed bumps...the worst enemy of lowered front ends! :rant
I haven't had any problems so far, it should be just fine. I'll go over some speed bumps tomorrow and give that a try. Maybe I can settle down after that and not worry.
 
Nice. Glad you have something much better in there. Bet the sound difference is like music to your ears...
 
Nice, looks very clean. I had the same issue with my AOD, couldn't get the headers I wanted to use to clear the pan without bending them to hit the frame rails up front. I've got a temp. stock setup at the moment awaiting first start.

If you have an RPM gauge, about what RPM do the VT's open up the valve? I've got VT's on mine and am curious when they go wide open. I know each engine will be a little different given varying backpressures but was thinking ~3K RPM as a guess.

So far they go from a soft rumble to a roar if I really kick it. I'm liking the cruising sound, not too soft and not too loud until I want it to be. Obviously as each shifting point gets close to shifting (rpms get up somewhat) it is a little louder. I just accelerate much harder if I want more sound. The exhaust guy said he wasn't really a fan of the mechanical valves that open like these do. He seems to think they get bad after long use. We'll see. Of course he sells Flowmaster mufflers so he would be a tad prejudice.
 
I have read that the original VT's had an issue with the valve staying open but they changed manuf./suppliers and fixed it I believe. I'm hoping mine work well once I get to first start. Too bad you can't access the springs to insert different pressure springs to open with more or less RPM.

Jon, One thing I did a little different after reading on these a bit, was to order the vt's for a 4 cylinder. That way, from what I read that other people wrote on this subject, the valves are a little bit easier to open (probably weaker spring set). Either way I am very pleased.
