Dual Fan Controller

It seems like my SPAL fan controller is starting to take a dump. Yesterday I went for a "normal" drive (not driving at high rpm levels), and my car temp went a little over 220*. I pulled into my driveway and popped the hood to find my dual fans were not running... gggrrrrrr. I let it cool down for a bit, and I started it back up to park in the garage, and the fans were running again.

I have heard other people say they had problems with the SPAL controller, especially the older models. Although, I like how the SPAL controller (when working correctly) switched one fan on at a low temp, then switched the second fan on when the temp reached a higher temp, it may be time to replace the controller before I get stranded on the road in stop and go traffic.

For those of you with a dual fan setup. What fan controller are you using? Are your dual fans switched on simultaneously, or are the fans switched on at different temps?

Mike,
Living here in the bay area, do you REALLY feel you need a dual fan setup? Did you ever run you motor with a stock mechanical fan?
What radiator are you running?

I've never run a mechanical fan on my aluminum Griffin radiator. And you may be right, I may not REALLY need a dual fan setup, but that's what I have. Why would I want to ditch everything just because the controller is taking a dump? Right now I'm leaning towards wiring two separate thermostatic switches via two separate relays to control each fan by a different temp setting. If I wire it myself, the cost shouldn't be too bad, but the wiring effort will be much more than buying a pre-wired controller box... something like this controller from DIF

Anyone else running a dual fan setup? If yes, how are your fans wired?

Both fans energize at 195 and de-energize at 180 through a single sensor. If the AC is on, regardless of coolant temperature both fans are energized.

Delta Controls seems to have the most reputable fan controller. IIRC the price isn't bad either (about $60?). SPAL's similar fancy PWM controller on the other hand.....
