EFI conversion - Intake question

I would save and buy the Holley you mentioned or a Trick Flow intake. Check our the corral.net for some good deals.

I'm currently running the Holley Systemax II. It's a great intake, I'd recommend going with it.

At $600 plus a throttle body, plus a harness, and an export brace that clears......i am wondering if I should sell my A9P and just buy the MSD throttle body efi. I have a fuel pump, lines, 70 model pedal, stock gt intake and injectors, rails, tb, mass air, etc.

Should I consider buying a throttle body setup?

You can pick up the Systemax for 400-450 used in good condition. Just keep your eyes on corral.net, they're always coming up for sale.

If you need a throttle body, I've got a 65mm and a 75mm sitting on the shelf. What size injectors do you have? I've also got a set of 24's and the mass air meter sitting on the shelf.

Everything I have is stock from a 95. My motor has iron Cobra heads, so whatever you think. I am guessing the 65mm tb would do me just fine.

Have a chance to buy a complete Explorer motor with 40k miles for $850. Should I just swap it in complete? Seems like that would be an easier deal. I don't know the power rating on it, but it can't be much different than what I have now.

IIRC the heads on the Explorer will cause you some clearance problems. The angle of the spark plugs is differenct and requires special headers. Other than that it seems like a decent price if it includes all the accessories and the computer.

That is a great price for a running Explorer motor. You will need to convert some of the EFI to the 93+/- vintage Mustang style (sensors) but the intake is a great unit. The other plus is the front serpentine setup. It is a nice compact system that saves you a couple of inches of clearance on the front of the motor. I am running that setup in the 65 fastback and easily fit a large aluminum radiator, electric fan...etc.

The serpentine components alone sell for well over $250 on ebay if you don't plan to use them.

He said it had GT40P heads. Seems like I remember different headers were required. I have Hooker Super Comps on my car, so that would be a no go if true. I may just go back to getting a Holley intake and harness.

I'll throw my $0.02 in here...I made my own. They're patterned after Total Control Product's. I got a piece of angle aluminum for the firewall and plate aluminum for the shock towers, plus a couple of heim joints and connector rods. I was able to make the piece on the firewall just wide enough to clear either the BBK intake or the Holley.

Shaping the aluminum was easy. I used a jigsaw to rough cut it out, and then sanding discs to smooth it out.

This pretty much what I did. I used an angle grinder though. It is a lot easier than you think.

I'm using the Holley intake.. it's a nice piece. It sits a little low, so you won't be able to run tall valve covers unless you run some kind of spacer.

You might be able to clear the stock export brace (I never tried), but I'm running Maier Racing export brace with plenty of extra room:

Good luck,
