Electronic Trunk release

I used a GM style trunk latch solenoid from the junk yard ($5) on my 66. With little modification on the latches, it works perfect. I can even still use the key to open the trunk. The latch even has a switch built in so you can use it for alarm or a trunk light. I had to enlarge the hole on one side of latch on the trunk and cut and space out the body latch. I adjusted the body latch up and down to flush the trunk when closed. It's not an easy modification, but worth trying since I didn't have to cut or modify the car body itself, only the GM latches. I used all the existing bolt holes.

Um, just in case you didn't know..... you can source from the same junkyard an electric trunk latch of a mid 70's - early 80's Ford mid-size sedan that's a direct bolt-in for a classic Mustang. You simply remove your existing trunk latch, bolt in the later model electric one... and then run 12v switched to it. No cutting/modifying anything is involved, it's a direct bolt-in.
