Engine bay question

Ok, wasn't sure if this belongs in the body section or the engine section but none the less, I have a question about the one piece export brace.

My buddy seems to think this should mount on the top of the lip that comes off of the cowl / firewall.

The problem is the export has a bend on each side and if you mount it the way he is talking about then the sides bend up instead of down. It just looks backwards to me. I thought it went under the lip of the cowl vent panel and the bent edges of the export should be bent down not up?

I could use a picture of a one piece export properly installed if anyone has one handy?

And by the way, here are a couple of pictures from the work going on this week.

Engine bay after paint....we were too lazy to remove the master cylinder before paint because we knew we were replacing it anyway.

Ok, cool...who knew. It just looked upside down to me, LOL!

They have at the shop a really nice '66 GT Vert that they have been working on forever that has it that way also. Odd though that I could have sworn my original ones mounted under.

I'm just hoping we get the motor in and the master cylinder in tomorrow then we should have it up and running by Thursday or so.

The master cylinder is actually proving to be a real you know what. They said something about using the original push rod instead of the one they already had on it when they shipped it. We're still looking into that one
 
Not sure, I believe it's a 911. It is one of my buddy's many cars and I can't keep track of them all.

He runs the shop and makes pretty decent money and isn't married (smart guy) so he has a ton of cars. He's got the car in the picture, a '65 Mustang, an old Vet, an old Mini (not the new ones) and several others. Like I said, can't keep track of them all but a couple of them are pretty sweet.
 
They said something about using the original push rod instead of the one they already had on it when they shipped it. We're still looking into that one

Without knowing any other details, I say "yes", follow the directions. With several different types of master cylinder swaps you retain the original car's push rod.
 
We got the master cylinder issue figured out. We had a problem today with the harmonic balancer and the pulley.

The one off the old motor 289 had 4 bolt holes while the balancer had 3 bolt holes. So I jumped in the car and ran over to John's Mustang...a couple of hours and $75 bucks later I had the pulley with three hole then it still didn't work.

I called the engine builder and he came and had a look. Turns out someone sold him the wrong part so he basically screwed up. He's coming over first thing in the morning to change out the harmonic balancer for us.

The problem we are having now is getting the one piece export brace to fit. Even with using the jack thing to spread the towers it won't fit by maybe 1/8th to 1/4th of an inch. If anyone has any ideas / suggestions that would be pretty wonderful, LOL!

Remove one of the engine crossmember bolts and then utilizing a pry bar type device carefully (and it's usually slow going) install the crossmember onto the shock towers. Install the one-piece bar onto the cowl's pinch weld last (again using the prybar to align the holes).
