Engine run on...

Looking for some thoughts here as my thought process is not working after the A/C this weekend.

The '66 has had nothing adjusted other than the choke idle speed since I got it. Using the same gas I always do. It has recently started acting up when shut off once at operating temps after driving. Does not happen when engine is not up to normal temps and it does not happen all the time. Began happening about 200 miles ago. Driving habits have not changed (like I stole it).

MSD unit, timing at 12, Edlebrock carb, reg. gas,

When I shut off the key, I get a short cough and shudder/pinging as the engine dies.

I am thinking timing but with MSD and nothing being changed..........I am drawing a blank.

I'm running 12* with my engine, maybe it's a tad too high. Try dialing it back and see what happens. Mark it so you know where it started from.

Maybe you should ship the carb to Duane for a rebuild.

Could be someone fiddled with the wiring, and an intermittent bad connection is occurring.

A bit of carbon could be building up in one of the cylinders, accounting for the run-on.

And, for good measure, maybe a cam lobe is beginning to wear just a tad?

Aren't I full of good news tonite?

Maybe the car doesn't get driven as hard as we're being led to believe!

I've NEVER had a car run-on from carbon deposits :craz

I will try the 8*, send the carb and the dist. out to the right rebuilders on here (yea, right) and pray for more Wattles to show up.

What compression are you running?

From John's info on the sale add:
"ENGINE
289 CID, rebuilt and balanced. Has 66k miles on it.
KB pistons, bored .030 over. 10:1 compress ratio
'69 351w heads (with 10:1 pistons, ends up with about 9.3:1 end compression ratio and runs great on 93 octane)
Edelbrock Perfomer RPM intake
Edelbrock Hi-flow water pump
Comp. Cams Extreme Energy XE262H cam (Duration 262/270, Lift .493/.500)
Harland Sharp roller rockers (with screw-in studs and guide plates)
Double roller Ford Racing timing chain
Griffin aluminum radiator
SPAL 16" straight blade electric fan
PowerMaster 100 amp single-wire alternator (w/ original Voltage Regulator removed)"

Even though it says it runs great on 93....John told me he was using 87.....hmm....maybe some confusion at the time of purchase.

Hey Mark, my car ran GREAT this weekend. How did yours turn out after the pin deal?

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know. I'm gonna talk my car into screwing up.
