Engine stumbles only in reverse.

I have an interesting problem id like to describe to see if any of you guys have experienced it before with your mustang.

Recently when i shift my 68's C4 into reverse, the engine dies or nearly dies, and giving it gas does nothing. However shifting into any other gear (D, 2, 1, or even N and P) there is no problem, runs smooth as a top. Any ideas?

Wonder if the motion in reverse is pulling the fuel away from a vital pickup or carb needle/jet.

Does it die instantly?

Could it be the back up lights are shorting out and grounding the elec. system? Maybe neutral safety switch...

Stop backing up.......lol

Backing up puts a reverse torque on the motor mounts. If your electrical connections are shaky or you have pinched wires, this could just be the reason.

Jon , do you have a 6 inline engine ??

If so , you have to correct the linkage that comes from the carburator and is connected to the firewall.

My 0.02 opinion.
