engine swap

Not 100% sure if you can or cannot use it. I would probably not try and use it, reason being most automatic transmissions utilize more clutch packs in a V8 trans than they do in a 6cylinder trans. Although if you are rebuilding it some autos can be brought up to V8 specs by adding the additional clutch packs.

From Infinity and Beyond

Never argue with a Moron, they will just drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I have done the swap, let me know if you need any advice on parts. Are you just swapping engine or doing a conversion?

What he said.

Putting a V8 in it with a little more HP , I would go for a full conversion.

I'll take all the help I can get. This is my 1st Ford project. I do know the '66's had a 6 bolt bell housing as opposed to the 5 bolt so I'm not sure if I need to change it. Putting a TCI front suspension under it and hoping to just swap the engine. Really want to try and keep the C4 trans. Not opposed to having it beefed up if that is apossibility.

Why the expense of the TCI set-up? If you are just dropping in a 302 or such it's not needed. You can upgrade the stock pieces with some improved designs like roller perches, etc. and save quite a bit of money. Plus it will handle and drive at least as well if not better.

...because all the cool kids have TCI front suspensions. That and getting rid of those damn shock towers really opens up the engine bay!

Too late on the TCI. Its on the garage floor and I'll be happy to get rid of the shock towers. Still looking for advice and help on the C4

I recently converted a Maverick from an inline 6 to a 5.0 with a C4 transmission. We were originally going to use the I-6 C4 and was told that just changing the bell housing was all it would take. The Maverick's owner came up with a C4 out of a V-8 Granada so we ended up using that instead. Not a lot of help I know, just passing on what I was told.

Way back when (circa 1984) I converted a 65 200ci/C4 to a V8. I say converted, I just yanked the old engine and dropped in a 302 I built from a bare block all in one weekend out on the driveway. Drove that one for a few years just like that and never had an issue. 4 lugs, mason jar master and all. Oh to be young and dumb again!

Memory isn't the best but I do know I picked up a used C4 from a friend to mate to the new engine. Probably due to bell housing requirement. I do know I reused trans lines and everything. Used a B&M shifter with a cable so have no idea if I could have figured out a way to use the original shifter linkage. I know not much help to you just reminiscing...sorry.

All that said, C4s can be had very easily for not a lot of money. I would get yourself one built internally for a V8 and know y=it can live happily behind your engine.
