Ethanol-Free Gas

Lately, I had to take a 1.5 year-old lawnmower for service, as it would not catch and run. The service guy said there was water in the gas, and recommended Heat or Stabil for ethanol. In addition, Midlife has experienced a bit of poor running while warming up, and perhaps while fully operational...a very slight stuttering. I've suspected the ethanol-laced gas that I've been using.

I found this website that lists all of the stations that sell ethanol-free gas. Midlife is due for a fill-up, and I'm going to dump the 2 5 gallon jugs of junk gas in the daily driver, filling up with ethanol-free gas. Screw the higher prices...I need my motors to run consistently and well!

Let us know your results after a few tanks. I switched to straght gas in my mower and weedeater and they both run better. The mower used to 'hunt' for a steady speed and now runs steady. I plan to use straight gas from first start on my new motor and hopefully every tank after. Word of warning, I've posted that link before and was bombarded with the 'there's nothing wrong with ethanol gas because the gubment says so' replies. Have you heard that they proposed upping it from 10%-15% and the NEW car manufacturers came out against it, just 5% more and they don't want it in new engines...?

Good luck with your real gas until they find out you can get it, I expect to see these stations start to disappear. Oh, and be prepared for the evil byproduct => better gas mileage!

You get so much condensation in Midlife's tank just from not driving it. I wouldn't be surprised if the gas in the tank still is of the leaded type sold in the 60's.......at .25/gal.

.....and yes, I have to watch the riding mowers for that damn water collection....I throw in some Stabil in the cans.

Huge problem with boat - lots of moisture, and vented tanks like our Stangs and lawn equip. What I do with my boat: keep the tank full if not running it at least every couple of weeks, with Stabil (really for the varnish in the carb, tests show it does nada for high water content ethanol gas). Full tank reduces breating and therefore condensation.

Non-ethanol gas is the better solution, but no reliable supply around here. Two of the ones near me listed on puregas.com are labeled for up to 10% ethanol, and NC does not require labeling anyway, so how do you know?

One of our local stations is listed on the website. I actually heard about it first through a guy with a pretty nicely modified early 70's truck that I helped out one day. Ironically enough I helped out a lady just around the corner from the place that ran out of gas. I gave her a lift to the station so she could use my gas can. While there I checked the pumps. Sure enough, straight gas (or at least less than 10% ethanol). The only real "down side" was, it the the super premium pump only. I'm certainly willing to spend the extra money though! :thu
