Ethernet connection blistering, wifi s-l-o-w

I recently added a new computer to my home network and recently something has changed.

I get blistering connection speeds (upload and download over 20 MBits/sec) thru the ethernet cable computers connected to my router.

Wifi however is terribly slow. I am getting 0.67 Mbits/sec download and about 3.5Mbits/sec upload speeds.

I'm running a 128 bit encrypted network and the wifi machine is running at G speeds (not b).

I am running on channel 11 and there appears to be 2 other networks on channel 11.

I'm going to try and move my router to an unused channel (6 is also used but the others are not) and see what happens.

I am not using WAP network protocol and don't know if my wifi equipment supports it or not.

Any advice would be appreciated.

If you only have G devices, change the wireless network in the router to G only if you can.
Any 2.4Gz cordless phones near the router?

I will try that. I've done a little digging into fios with this router n it appears that the hot setup is to tie in another wifi roter. The adaptec is still neede for the video on demand function to work.

Made significant progress.

1. I moved my channel to 6 as there were lots of other networks on 1 and 11.

2. Tranmitting at G

note: steps 1 and 2 didn't do much of anything. I had download speeds of .75Mbps and upload of about 5 Mbps, while my hard wired cat5 connection is downloading at 35 Mbps and uploading at 40 Mbps.

3. I then looked at the wireless settings for the router and got it. I forced the transmit rate to 54 Mbps from auto

Now I'm getting 10.5 Mbps downloads and 14+ Mbps upload speeds...

I am still considering moving to a wireless N router and connecting it up. There has been some bulliten board posts to set this up and all I'll need to do is buy a router and a couple of ethernet patch cables....

Just an update. I had done some research and discovered the wifi adapter that comes with Verizon FIOS is a slug. Finally bouth a Netgear 3700 dual band router and a usb wifi adapter for the pc downstairs and am now getting the following thruput rates via www.speedtest.net:

ping: 8ms

download speed: 25 MBPS

upload speed: 18 MPBS
