Evaluating carb Through Plugs

I'm trying out some different jets in the carb and want to make sure the motor's not running lean or rich by checking the plugs.

I was going to start with new plugs as a clean baseline... should I run the car for about 30 minutes before checking the plugs (enough running time)?

you really need a stretch of road where you can get on it, shut her down and coast to a stop, then pull the plugs.

As said.....any idling will most likely show as rich/black on the plugs. You need to run the car long enough for proper temps to be reached, run it at a fairly steady speed, and shut the key off and stop. Then you can pull a few plugs on the side of the road and decide what to do...
