Exhaust ideas

Trying to decide between shorty or long tube headers. Thoughts.
Gonna put 2.5 inch pipe and 40 series flowmasters on.
Then next months check will be a 4 barrel carb and intake.

Long tube headers are the best but they hang low, whereas the Shorties are tighter fitting but retain heat more as compared to the Long tube's.

Long tube headers = more power
Shorties = easier install, important if you find that you keep having to remove them to access clutch linkage, starter, steering box, etc...

Unless you are actually going to race your car long tubes are simply not worth the potential headaches. Power gains long vs good shorts are very, very small and only really show up at high RPM and on the track.

You might also consider midlength, a little of each good part and better chance they'll fit. SellersRodShop has these on his '69 and likes them, he was happy with the quality for $ and he welds.

The exhaust connection ends up down by the bend of the firewall and the pipes have less restrictive bends compared to most shorties.

I have tri-Y headers on both cars. I have zero issues with dragging them. They fit nice and snug up to the car. The 67 has a T5 and the 65 has a TKO.
