Exhaust noise - too much!

Julie is complaining that the coupe we are taking on the H.R.P.T. is too loud on the highway and drones. It is a fairly stock "A-code" 289 with dual exhaust (standard size pipes). I have heard that resonators will help quiet down the exhaust. I need some recommendations to quieten the drive.

I do not know the brand of mufflers but I told the shop I wanted quiet, it seems fine to me at normal city driving speeds.

I have already added a lot of sound deadner to the interior. Since the noise makes Julie's head hurt, I need help to make it quiet.

It may be that the mufflers are directly across from each other and resonating together. I've read posts of moving one muffler back ~6"? and it making a difference, just a thought.

How about some of those soft ear plugs that are foam? Might be a good compromise.
