Exhaust question

Are the exhaust pipes suppose to be welded to the floor (under it)?? I see no clamps or anything holding them up, but they are staying up and do not wiggle. :shrug Was thinking that if they are welding and have no wiggle room, then isn't is going to be pain in the ass to disconnect the headers from the block to take the engine out?

I removed some of the header wrapping and :rant rusted all up. Looks like I'm going to have to buy new ones or see if media blasting could salvage them.

They will hang pretty good with just the headers and a hanger under the rear seat area. Remove the collector bolts and things should slide apart.

Cost of cleanup vs new.....consider both.

I didn't see any bolts at all. :confu We're going to try to disconnect the headers and go from there.

I know someone who could blast the headers and powder coat them for like $100-200. :thu

Wherever the headers connect to the pipe, there is normally a three cornered "ring" with three bolts. This is just after the four pipes from each cylinder join each other.....the collector. Sounds like someone may have just welded everything together. I would take a sawsall about mid way back on the trans. (past the point of the 4 pipes joining) and cut them if that is the case.

On the 65 I went with ceramic coated. They cost a lot of money but were worth it.

On the 67 I used painted and wish I had done the ceramic thing.
