Dumb question: is that the normal hood location, or is that only for show purposes?

Show purposes...no hinges so they pin it. Use extended posts to display......bring your 66 to some local shows and you might see some......... :roll

Cool car but I suspect it's for show only otherwise a minor bump in the road will push the rr tires into the wheel openings.

Never was much rear suspension travel on those old drag cars either. Many had a tire/fender closeness that never met.

Yeah, it'd look much better with taller slicks tucked up under the fenders. The way it's set up, it strikes me more as a show piece than a 'go' piece.

Hey Tara, is that car around here, it seems like I've seen it maybe in Bristol.

All that and he didn't tub the rear and shorten the axle? :shrug
I think he was going for a "look" they didn't really tub the gassers back in the day (they didn't have that wide of tires either). He's got a gasser style with modern rubber. I like it

Maybe it was in Beckley WV? Anyway, it is a nice and interesting car.

I like mine low. I put 275/50's on the back with no mods at all. It's a 4-speed, big block Tri-Power car so it moves pretty good. You don't see them at the car shows very often around here.
