Fastest way to learn Quickbooks?

This is the job ad I came across this morning...

Small car dealership needs part time office help. Hours are flexible but would need to be available Saturdays.

General office work, answering phones, helping customers, filling out paperwork, filing etc.

Must have computer experience, especially Quick books and Excel... if you have any kind of HTML background that would be a huge plus.

Turns out I know who this is, and asked about the job and if he wants to me to send him a resume. He said no, I don't need one. Anyway, talked to him and he said job is mine if I want it. :thu I'll go in next Friday (he's out of town until Thur) and we'll go over some stuff. Anyway, I will need to learn Quick books ASAP. Does anyone know of a good book I could buy or DVD training video?

Learning QuickBooks is pretty easy, it is user friendly and has a help file in it that is pretty good.

It's the underlying accounting knowledge that is the hard part.

The data entry part doesn't seem like it would be hard to learn. I'm pretty PC savy and can learn programs pretty easy. The part that has me worried is the guy who I'd be working for, wants me to be able to learn the accounting part. Besides him, I would be the only person who knows about the finances of the business. Which is why he said he'd rather have me doing this. He knows me. I'm not some random stranger he hired off craigslist. Last thing I want to do is mess up his money. :skul I'm going to talk to him Friday. Maybe suggest hiring an actual CPA or someone to do the actual accounting and hopefully still stay hired to do the other things he needs like html and receptionist duties.

While hunting for classes for quickbooks I ran across this guy - http://www.edslovacekcpa.com/qbtraining.php
Offers to train employees how to use QB :confu

He should have an accountant to keep things straight already. I'd be suprised if he does not. So, he's likely asking you to do the day to day stuff - pay bills, deposits, run registers & reports, etc. You don't need to be an accountant for that.

I'm not sure he has an accountant, yet. This is his first business and he told me he's just kind of going with the flow right now. He mentioned to me the first thing I would have to figure out is QB and something about payroll and W2's. :shrug

"Going with the flow" can lead to fast failure if he is not careful. Friends or not, don't get in over your head because you will be the one answering the questions.

Yeah I know. When I see him on Friday, I'm going to be able to get more details of things he'd done, needs to do, etc. I won't mind working for him, as long as I get paid. lol I just don't want to be the one who has to answer to legal issues. :no
