Finally Getting Blown! **updated w/ Falcon pics...**

Hi All!

Been away from the forum for a while (not to mention my Mustang).

After 10 long years I have decided to actually "finish" my engine and get the supercharger that was always planned for it. When I built the motor, I intentionally kept compression low (slightly under 9:1), planning for this eventuality but then there were kids, braces, always something to keep me from moving forward.

I am looking at the Paxton NOVI-1200 here:

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/PAX-1001840SL-P/

along with this carb:

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/DEM-1282010/

Before I place the order, is there anything else I need to buy to go along with it? Looks like the Paxton kit is pretty complete.

Also, does anyone care to offer an opinion on the carb choice? I'm venturing into unknown territory with this and only want to do it once!

Anyone know of a better place to make the purchase?

Oh, and Mid-Atlantic guys - plan for a boost party one weekend soon!

Depends what kind of setup and engine you have. I was actually looking at superchargers for my '66 the other day. This one to be exact.

My husband ended up calling Paxton to see what all is required to put it on my '66 that has a 302 from a 1990. :roll The guy from Paxton said I would have to change the location of the alternator, change the harmonic balancer (to one that allows two belts) and put the 5.0 engine to a V belt setup in order to get the supercharger to fit/work. I believe he also mentioned something about having to build/make a bracket for those changes.

The other alternative for my late model 302 was this:

That one is for EFI, but he said just replace the top part with one for the carbureted system.

I'd call up Paxton and ask them what would be best for you car/engine. My husband said when he called yesterday, the guy was very helpful. Oh yeah, and the guy from Paxton said there could be clearance issues with the hood depending which kit/setup I went with. My husband said nope. lol I have a 3 or 4" cowl hood so no worries about clearance.

You might double-check with Paxton on that carburetor. I was thinking they recommended the Mighty Demon series, as there's one with special supercharger features:
http://www.jegs.com/i/Barry+Grant/132/5 ... C/10002/-1

Says on Paxton website which carbs they recommend:

Holley #4150 type, Quick Fuel Q-750 BAN or Demon 650 MD 4-BBL carburetor (mechanical secondaries, .120 needle and seat plus nitrophyll float set).
*If the Holley carburetor is used, an air diffuser (#8M011-001) is recommended.

Re: Finally Getting Blown!

consider contacting a companyspecializing in carbs like AED or Pro Systems. tell them what you have so they can set up a carb to get you close to what you need.

Re: Finally Getting Blown!

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm looking at essentially the same setup as Kat but driver side mount. I picked the Demon 650 based on what their website recommended but obviously missed the MD part! But then, this is why I posted the question!

I'll take your advice and make a few phone calls.

Still looking for a PD blower that would fit under the hood but no luck so far.

J - how's the family? You guys have to come east for vacation! :beer

Re: Finally Getting Blown!

Do we need to get the Falcon moved out prior to the blower install? I've poked around in a few places but haven't been able to generate meaningful interest for it.

It would be helpful, but not necessary. I'm waiting for the title transfer to finish up and then will ernestly look to get rid of it. At this point, I'll have it towed for scrap if that's what I need to do. It's a shame because it's in such good shape but I just want to get rid of it.

62 Falcon Tudor (round body)
Partially restored
170 engine rebuilt stock
All new front suspension (upper ball joints, lower arms, shocks)
All new steering tie rod ends
New stock size tires on 13" steel wheels
SS brake and fuel lines
New master cylinder, wheel cylinders, brakes and hardware, drums turned

The car was in a barn for over 35 years, but suffered the effects of un-climate controlled environment, minor surface rust on sheet metal. Half the body has been sanded down and primed.

Transmission (FOM 2 speed) needs new seals.

Small (1/2 dollar sized) rust hole in floor boards from leaking door seal - the only real rust on the entire car.

Interior upholstery needs replacement as does carpet.

Bumpers need rechromed, most ornaments need replaced. All SS trim in new shape.

Have a collection of NOS parts (some emblems, new exhaust pipe, mew muffler and clamps and more)

In the event I am breaking some rule - this is not a for sale ad, just answering a question! :

Re: Finally Getting Blown!

Breaking the rule because I cannot get into the pics..temporarily not available..some of us old folks don't do facebook....

Re: Finally Getting Blown!

and some of us younger folks are anti facebook.. I remember pics from VMF, why are you selling?

Re: Finally Getting Blown!

Sorry Pete, that was the easiest place to link to as there were already pics there. I'll have to find some time to upload a few here. Hey - I love your new car!

Ryan, let's just say that my priorities in life have changed dramatically within the last few months. As much as I like the Falcon, finishing it just isn't in the cards.

Added the pics for ya Frank. And give me a call this weekend if you get a chance. We need to catch up!
