Hell Bent for Speed
Just got them on temporarily tonight. Had to see them on. I think I may want to go with bigger tires on the back though... Not any wider, just maybe taller ~huh

Fronts are 245/40/17 (8" rim)
Rears are 275/40/17 (9" rim)

Opinions...?

And just how are you going to install the doors with the fender already attached? Hmmmmm...

Same way I took them off - just reverse order.

I just removed them to paint the car. Putting them back on is easy.... ~huh

Thats a pretty wide tire to start with, I'm think you may need an 1/4 or 1/8 spacer to push them out a tad bit.

I am contemplating a spacer right now. The rears have a backspace of 6".

I can get a thumb in there. And when I measure my thumb (yes I just did it) it's a tad over an inch wide. But you can see it was a tight fit. So I probably have a good 3/4" clear between tire and leafspring.

So I probably have a good 3/4" clear between tire and leafspring.

Assuming that the leaf spring is the closest interference point....

It may be different on 69-70 cars, but with 65-68 cars, usually the interference point is:

1. The edge of the steel mount on the frame mounted rubber bump stop (where the top of the rearend housing would hit the bottom of the frame rail under maximum compression).

2. The lower inboard forward corner area of the inner wheelwell.

It does look to me as if the wheels would look better spaced out 3/8ths - 1/2 inch.

For reference, we used 17x9 with 5.5 BS on my sons '68 with 275/40/17 tires

Get it outside and give us a 30' side shot of the whole car.

I would love too. Weather is just not cooperating yet. Too damn cold. I will as soon as I get a warm(er) day.

I didn't realize the tires were that wide, they probably would look better like you said with some more height---they would fill out the wheel well better, will your tire guy let you switch?---still looks like a sweet car.

Thats where mine is the tightest. and it does rub over sharp bumps. I need to beat them back.

They look good man. That black really set off against the yellow. I do think the rear could be a little taller. More pics when you get them.

The lower inboard forward area of the inner wheelwell is where mine was rubbing. I took the rear wheels off and took a BFH to that area. Also put on some Tin Man SFC to keep the body from twisting so much. Sometimes I still get slight rubbing if I get the front wheels on a different plane than the rear wheels, but not that bad. Tires are 225/60/15.

Likewise on my 67.
275s fit comfortably and I'm actually thinking of going 285 (295 may be a pipe dream).
