Finding car valuations of cars more then 25 years old

ok, How do I find out what my car is worth for insurance purposes. One of my Mustangs was hit by a pickup last week, and I think the guys insurance company is going to screw me and total the car. Kelly Blue book only goes back to 90, NADA goes back far enough, but there is a huge discrepancy. Who else does valuations? I need to go back to 1986.

I use an appraised value done upon me purchasing and insuring the car. You might try locating an appraiser outside the ins. industry. He could value the car prior to the damage.

I have done a few for those poor individuals that did not bother to get an appraisal before the accident.

Where are you located? I just had my fastback re-appraised yesterday by a local guy that is part of an international network. His name is Jeff Locke, 757-285-6226, email is jlocke@i-van.org. He is in Chesapeake, VA but can put you in touch with somebody local to you. Charge was $125 for the appraisal. Beyond insurance pre-appraisals (ie, before the accident happens), this is right in line with what he does, and he also does pre-purchase appraisals. Day before he did my car, he did a 70 Mach 1 for a guy buying it, and it turned out to be a good deal and a good price.

You may not want to spend $125 on an appraisal, but if it means the difference between the insurance company paying out $3000 to fix it versus $5000, its money well spent. Even more so if they try to total it.
