Finished rebuilding my C4

Finished rebuilding my C4 this morning. Overall it was pretty easy. The only tool I needed to buy was a snap ring pliers. I had also purchased Bad Shoes DVD on rebuilding a C4. So for $150 and six hours of my time I have rebuilt C4 and didn't get raped by the transmission shops around here. Now to lift this heavy SOB into place.

congratulations! the inner workings of an automatic transmission befuddle me... I think they work by voodoo or something. maybe someday I will learn...

You just think that c4 is heavy, I rebuilt the aod in my '66 with the badshoe video and that mother is very heavy. Flipping that thing around on the work bench was enough to give someone a hernia. I had to use the transmission jack add on for my floor jack to get it up and in position. Still took my youngest boy that works out constantly to help get it positioned just right to slide on there.

Try doing a 4L60E from a 1996 Blazer. I had to rebuild my father in laws 2 years ago after his let loose returning home from a Christmas visit. It was either rebuild it or he was going to be living here for a while :roul

I could have rebuilt 10 C4's in the time it took. I had no special tooling and had to fabricate plenty of stuff to get the tranny back together with the lip seals they use. I figured the tranny would be coming out and back apart but 2 years and it is still chugging just fine :beer

My C4 cost me 300 bucks to rebuild at a local shop, 2 weeks ago my 4L80E went bad in my work truck. Took it to the same guy and it was over 2K. I called around, he wasn't the cheapest, but he was far from the most expensive.

I've been building those things for years, very easy, and easy to mod for big HP.

I've got an old car Magazine from back in the 80's that tells how to mod this tranny as well as a C6. The article is called "King of the C's".

I have NEVER seen those mods again in print!!! I've seen plenty of stock rebuilds, but never the one in that article, hummm, wonder why..........
