Fire Update on MrGem...Glen & Dawn Morgan

Toni got an email from MrGem (she's been in contact with him)

Seems the fires are only 3 miles from them at Flagstaff Mountain in Colorado

He will load his Mustang and maybe couple of his motorcycles on
the trailer. They've got clothes and some belongings packed and ready

They could have to leave with less then 1/2 hour notice.

Toni reminded him to pack human and pet meds, jewelry and
some photos along with a folder of their documents (passports,
marriage certificate, car documents etc...since smoke can
damage them...and...they usually are not mentioned in the
"survival bag" list that's usually provided.

Does not sound good at all.

Toni put in a request to have an Angel sent to watch over them

Maybe we all should do the same.

Just thought I'd update everyone.

Prayers sent. I can recall a few instances like that back when I was growing up in Florida. not a good situation at all.

Prayers and positive thoughts being sent from here. I see Glen once a year at the Knott's Ford show, he is good people and does not need this.

Please pass along to Glen that if necessary, I will fly out there with the mankini to help scare the fire away. What are friends for?

The Rocky Mountains are so dry, we are all on pins and needles for the foreseeable future!

MrGem, be safe, I know I am a bit far away, but if you need a place to go or store your stuff, just let me know!

I can't promise it will get you out of fire potential, but it is clear for now!

I am praying for all who are in the way of some of these horrible fires!

Sanpete county Utah is being hit hard, 50 houses burned, our area is out of danger right now, but we have a contingent of fire fighters and helicopters stationed down the street!

To all who've offered their prayers and well wishes. We are safe (dogs included), as are the cars. Thanks so much for thinking of us.

The fire appears to be just smoldering now -- which certainly isn't completely safe, but we are in much better shape than we were just a couple of days ago. The predominant winds around here blow west to east and this week, thankfully for us, they were true to form and blew the fire away from us, and towards the south end of the City of Boulder and a huge government laboratory there as well as a few thousand homes.

It appears that the lab and homes are safe now after effective fire lines were created between the fire and the populated area.

My suspicion is that the threatened homes and lab justified the use of a ton of resources that never would have been brought to bear if the wind had pushed the fire west, towards the sparcely-populated part of the county where I live. It also helped that the fire was only a couple of miles from the airport that houses many of the air tankers and helicopters being used to fight fires in CO, UT, and WY.

On a related note, the people of CO Springs have not been nearly so fortunate. At present, about 350 families have lost their homes to the extreme heat and 65 mph winds driving a likely arson caused fire. Please keep the families of CO Springs, many of whom are retired military, in your thoughts and prayers. You may even want to throw a few bucks in the direction of the American Red Cross -- who is coordinating all the emergency relief work going on down there.

Thanks again, everyone.

My wife has family in Co Springs. They have all been closely watching the events going on there.

I am glad to hear that you came through this okay.

I have two cousins that live in Colorado Springs. I spoke with my Uncle (their dad) last night and he said they are ok and have the important things packed so they can leave on a moment's notice.

They do have several friends who had to be evacuated and don't know if their place is gone or not.

I mentioned to my Uncle that he should not worry, in that O is coming to the rescue. It's been a long time since I heard him that mad and he said 'Steve, that's not funny. We're talking about family.....' Of course, I apologized.
