Fishing and wishing

My beautiful children left me a grand present in my boat that I recently found. I took a few days to back away rather than blow a gasket. Three of my fishing poles have been turned into chop sticks. The good news is that I had an excuse to buy so nice ones for replacements.

So how do you store your fishing poles? I thought about using PVC pipe and place them on the ceiling so they are out if the kids big feet. Any suggestions

Are you storing them in your boat? How did they have access to the rods? When you say ceiling, ceiling of the boat's cabin?

I have two pieces of 1 inch pvc about 5 foot long with equal number of notches cut in each (for the rods to rest in) --I have them spread about 4 feet apart(attached to the rafters with mechanics wire)---I lay the front of the pole in first then I am able to set the butt of the pole in the back holder---my uncle showed me this 20 years ago. I drive under them in my garage.

Personally, I'd use the poles as switches.

But remember, I don't have kids and am evil.

G loomis or lamiglass? Thanks taking a pic. Initially I thought of PVC but I leaning towards vinyl coated hooks on a 2"x3" board

I have 4-5 sets of plastic coated bicycle hooks vertically positioned on a couple 2x6". You could do the same against a wall but the only issue might be the reels touching the walls. Will still shoot a pic. Wife is now saying we need a bigger rod rack.

Humph!

Here's a quick sketch of an idea if one wanted to bolt something to a wall using maybe a couple 2x6's with some bike hooks. Mine is just like this except not having the 2x6 that fastens to the wall (It could be a 1/4 or 1/6 as well). And yes, you would need to build two of these setups. Will still take a pic when I get home.

My set up takes about 2 minutes to install and you determine the height by the length of the wire---they are stored horizontally .

I need to go horizontally due to space but I was thinking if using bike hooks and smaller ones for the rod ends attaching them to 2x2's then slipping the rods in them

Fishing rods should never be stores in a way that there is any pressure causing the slightest bend. They should never be stored long term leaning in the corner or horizontal.

They should be hung standing up with three or more places holding the rods upright and the butt resting on a solid surface.

I learned all this when I was making custom fishing rods many years ago.

Also storage depends on the material they are made from. Bamboo has to be stored very carefully so you do not get permanent bends!

You can use PVC pipe mounted so the butt fits into it and holds the rod upright. I like to use a piece of wood that is almost like a question mark so the rod can gently sit inside the "o" part.

Horizontal storage will cause the rods to get a slight bend at the points where it is supported which will cause the action of the rod to become dull and could cause failure after that point of the rod where it was resting becomes rigid.
