Ford racing boss 302 crate motor

Can someone look at this and tell me a little info. I'm a body/paint guy trying to buy an engine for my 65 fastback. It will be a weekend driver that I'm planning on putting Mass-Flo EFI on. My main objective is to have an engine that will last me forever and will start every time I turn the key. I'm not looking to melt the tires. However, I've come across this Ford crate motor on ebay from a Ford dealership. They are selling it for $6180. The Ford racing website lists it at $8790. Even getting parts discounts since I own a body shop, I can't buy it this cheap from my local motorsport dealer in Houston. Let me know what you think. Also, it mentions Z heads. Will headers that fit a regular 5.0 or 302 work on the Z heads.

Thanks,

Thats not a "boss" block, its a standard 302 block, with aluminum Z heads. It is a good motor, but not one of the new "boss" blocks.

Its odd, the Ford Racing PN they list does not match up to anything. The HP and torque the list match up to the Boss crate engine, but they do not mention the boss block in the ad.

FORD RACING P/N: M-6007-Z50Z
The PN should be M-6007-Z302Z*

Now I see the difference. All of the numbers I was comparing to the Ford Racing website looked the same, except the Boss part. That definitely explains the price difference. I new it was too good to be true! Even so, how does that engine look for my application?

Thanks,
Doug

It would still require some work to use in a late model. New pan and oil pump. The timing cover most likely is not setup for an oil dip stick, you mentioned EFI so you would be OK without the fuel pump eccentric and not having the opening for the fuel pump. I believe the water pump is reverse rotation as I imagine its setup for a serpentine. You would still need a distributor as well. AND i don thing the HP and torque values listed would be correct. I think you could find a similar deal (price) for a more drop in type engine.

Hello Doug, If you want a turn key motor (totally complete true drop in ) from experienced people then check this out. I received mine mounted on a crate, dropped it in , instant perfection.

Just a thought to take away the worries.

This is the linkhttp://www.enginefactory.com/Ford_performance_engine_choices.htm

The following is what I got from them. 302/350HP
Intro to this video: The Video Link is at the end, the following is about the Engine.

It was done this summer before, during and after the "TGE" (The Great Exodus). If there is a "Dark" side and a "Light" side , I started seeing the light of the dark side on October 3rd 2008 with an inside whisper when I wrote that I noticed some changes were a happening. I post this to my new home for members that may have missed it over there.
The video was done for VMF as an attempt to get more members involved with video.I looked and did not find an "Audio" or "Video" room here...Yet... :) I think we were made for pictures and video, otherwise "Playboy" would never have employed photographers. the video captures the 2nd start of the engine. The actual first start fried my starter because I wired the ignition per Ford diagram (two wires were wrong don't have a clue why mine needed switching) The engine is a crate "True Turn Key" from TheEngineFactory.com 350HP

Right or wrong I can tell you the Engine sat in that box for almost 2 years. An engine that was built by people better than I. This Engine was broke in at the factory for almost an hour using the standard break in procedure they use, video taped and sent to me when done. The Engine was payed for in payments over a two year period. This enabled me to afford to lock in a price that I knew would rise. 7200.00 or so is what I paid. This price included the Billet Serpentine

I know an Engine like this can be done cheaper at home. I do not have the correct tools , Knowledge and specs to have done this properly and correctly. What I do know is that when it came time to put her in and start her, she would be correct and work for sure. That is what I paid for and it paid off. In the Video you will here high RPM's of the auto choke (not connected electrically yet) , this assured that lubrication started as quickly as possible.
