Found a tempting job...

It would be a cool job. I couldn't pay my mortgage on that salary though.

I was at my buddy's shop yesterday and they have an old T-bird of some sort (1960 something) and apparently there is no one reproducing parts for that car. My buddy has a guy that works for him that is awesome with a welder (mad skills kind of like J) so they are making most of the quarter panel from scratch. It was kind of cool to look at.

I've got my TA over there right now. They are putting in all the A/C pieces for me and charging the system, etc....I want to be ready when the hot weather comes along here soon. I could have bolted all the crap in myself but it's only $50 or so to get them to do it and I can't charge the system with R12 at home so I just got them to do all of it for lack of time :pbj

Hubby's paycheck covers bills, living expenses, etc. I just need money for the mustang project. If I wasn't a wimp, I'd call about that job. I'd give anything to learn how to do that stuff which would help me fix my own car. Bonus being paid to learn how to do it. :thu

I hear ya.

Hell I'd do the job for free just to learn if I had the time.

Madisonville would be a pretty long commute for you though....

About 30 min away is all. I live on the north side of Bryan and the 21 isn't far from my house. Hell I drive it all the time to go to our bank which is in Madisonville (my father in law is president of the bank).

Go for it, but beware....they may require you to work in daisy dukes and a flimsy low cut t-shirt!

The commute should be no problem. According to the ad "Telecommuting is ok." So, just sit at home and do the work over the computer!!

They probably don't want a female which is why I'm not going to bother with it. If I had balls, then it would be worth calling. lol

Don't you have hubby's in your purse?

I'm sorry.......that is just wrong on your part.

I was gonna say the same thing, maybe I can do two things while I sit at my desk and do nothing all day....

I don't see how that job could be"Telecommuting is ok. " Doesn't one have to be physically there in order to build cars? :wtf

Why, for pointing out the obvious... that men make up the field? :shrug I've driven past this place. It's a giant shed and very uh, redneck.

I wouldn't jump to conclusions...you never know till you ask.

Worst they could say is no thanks.

for giggles I called.

He said main thing the person has to have a drivers license because they will be lots of driving around. :wtf
He said he has to go to Hunstsville this afternoon, but I can come in tomorrow and fill out and application/interiew. He sounded hesitant though when talking to me.

Computer work on designing parts and ideas is part of the building job.....not just thinking it up and producing it.

I just feel you are selling yourself short by having the attitude that you are female and they won't want to hire you. You are rebuilding your own classic, you have some good computer skills and are using them locally, you are available now..... Many places start out in a giant shed......look at the one that burnt recently.......looks do not mean anything about the product coming from the shop.

+1

My local buddy has done some amazing things to every kind of car you can think of. But to look at his shop you'd think :wtf

My buddy was an executive type that worked on cars as a hobby but he got tired of the rat race of the corporate world. He charges less then a lot of other places but it's because he runs a smart business.

Some idiots go out and get a huge new shop and then wonder why they can't cover their overhead.

Part of my friend's business model is to keep the shop with no frills and have only what you need to get the job done even if it isn't the prettiest place to keep the overhead low. He builds a better car then any of the guys that start their business by going out and building a 10,000 sq foot facility.

He's stayed plenty busy even the last couple of years through the economic down turn and I've seen them turn out some really nice custom work, full restorations, etc, etc.
