Front Coil Springs Loose

Horseplay

I Don't Care. Do you?

I've read a couple times now that people are seeing their front coil springs (cut or lowering) sitting loose in the tower pocket when the wheel is jacked off the ground. I saw the same with mine when I did a mock assembly. Is this normal? And do I have anything to worry about should I ever get the car finished and on the road?

I'm wondering if fabbing up some kind of extension off the upper spring cup to help keep the spring located during extreme suspension travel wouldn't be a bad idea.

Did you have the front sway bar attached?

My front springs are loose at full droop, but I f I loosen the sway bar, the lower arms drop a little and they are real loose. I wouldn't worry about it unless you'll be entering the Baja race!

Now that you mention it, no, I didn't have a sway bar installed at that time. I have one now so I'll see what difference it makes.

Still, I'm a bit concerned as I intend to drag race this car. They'll be enough gear and power to lift the wheels. Maybe I need to reconsider the shortened springs. They aren't helping with weight transfer anyway.

I discovered that on my 70 recently while setting the front ride height. Unless you get air under it, probably will not be an issue but I don't like having to position them as the car is lowered. It is nice not to have to deal with spring compressor but will probably get lowering springs that are taller.

Both the shocks and the sway bar keep the arm from going to full droop. Most if not all of my cars don't need a compressor to install the spring.

Ahhh - I do have my shocks disconnected. So when the shocks are hooked up the springs will stay in place when car is lifted from center?

They may still drop from making contact with the upper seat area based on how short they are but they will stay close and not fall out.
