Try that clear plastic they apply. It protects and is almost not there. They use it on some of the buses to protect the windshields from rocks. It is installed on the front up to about three inches above the dash on the glass. Protects the paint and the glass.
I do not know the name, but there is a guy here in Cedar City, UT that puts it on the rockers as well to protect from flying rocks.
Also, Stan try taking fender covers and cut them to fit under the wheel wells and use adhesive and screws to keep them in place. It will stop the tires from flinging rocks up and over the opening onto the top and chipping the paint.
