Fucos grendaded

This morning on my way to work, 1/2 way there (in Agoura Hills), it sounded like I ran over something. Then I heard the sound of something like it was loose rattling around, but more of a thrashing sound. I then noticed that the oil pressure idiot light was on. I coasted off the freeway and pulled into a 76 station and shut the motor off.

I got out and saw that there was oil all over the bottom of the oil pan. I could not specifically tell where it was coming from, but it's not the pan and looked like it was coming from somewhere above the oil filter.

I got the car towed home and will take the day off and investigate.

Interestingly enough, I had changed the oil on Mar 16 and the analysis came back with higher than normal iron content in it, it was elevated (225 ppm) but not flagged as red.

The motor runs ok. It's not missing, but there is a thrashing sound. I suspect that the oil pump or something like that may have failed and hopefully not the pistons, rods, cam or crank.

I'll get it in the garage today and investigate.

Verified grenaded. Hole in block for #3 cylinder. Rod is busted. Working to find a replacement.

142k and boom.

Not sure how it could be but have to believe :mark is somehow involved in this.

Nope, not me, don't have any Fucos' nor have I ever been to Kalifornica.

What engine? The 2.0 (2000-05) seems to throw valve seats between 80,000 and 150,000 miles.

Had it towed to a shop and they will install a rebuilt engine in it. Their estimate includes re-using the cylinder head and doing a valve job on it. I also instructed them that 'while they are at it' replace the clutch and water pump, soft parts (hoses belts, etc) on condition.
Their quote is 2485.00 if the head is save-able. It will likely grow for the other pieces but I suspect it will be less than 3k.

2.0 L PZEV.

Here's a pic of the damage.

So why do I remember reading things like this, but I know the SWMBO told me to do something today, but I cannot remember what???

Finally got the car back on Saturday, April 5.
Replaced radiator, hoses, water pump, plugs, timing chain, all 16 valves, clutch, throw out bearing and other sundrie items.

Picked up car and it was running hot (up to 220 deg on the freeway) and I suspected that the Thermostat was defective.

Had it taken back this past Friday and indeed the thermostat was bad. Now temp control is stable, but I've got two other issues to work. Engine is pinging easily (never happened in 142k miles) and the power steering pump is moaning. I am going to change the oil today (break in oil with lots of zinc additive) and suck the existing power steering fluid out and replace it with fresh fluid.

I also will inspect to see if the knock sensor is connected.

I just picked up a completely rebuilt 2.0 for the '00 Focus SE that dropped a valve seat. Got a shop doing this install this week. Was my granddaughters ride until this, now I will decide its fate once it is up and running.

Good luck with yours...
