Fuel pressure regulator question

My car is starting to have some weird issues starting. I can hear the fuel system priming. It takes about 30 seconds of cranking for it to start. After it starts it runs just fine. When I park it and then drive a short time later in the same day there's no problems but if it sits a few days the problem comes back.

I noticed when it's giving me this problem that the fuel pressure gauge goes up to 41 when the key is on and then immediately drops down to zero after priming of the car stops. It seems to me that I remember the prime of the engine to hold after it was pressurized. I think I may have a problem with my fuel pressure regulator. What do you guys think?

I replaced the fuel filter today to see if that was a contributing factor. It's seem to prima little bit faster but I still had to crank it for a while.

It should hold pressure after it primes. Sounds like a check valve in then pump is bad.

Good call Evil. I called Aeromotive this morning to see what they had to say before buying a bunch of new parts and they agreed with you. The A1000 pump I am using doesn't have a check valve in it. They also said that as the pump gets used it loosens up and will actually allow the pump to freely flow in reverse from the pressure in the rails when it is not on. I guess my setup has finally gotten enough use that it flows freely. Now the cash in my wallet will flow freely as I buy a check valve and coupler to attach it to the back of the pump. :)

I may need to add a check valve also, I thought the pump had one in it. Learn something new every day.
