Garage Light Planning Help

So we are building a new house with a good size garage. I will go in before we move in to apply Epoxy-Coat on the floor. I also have plans to install my air compressor lines like the TPtools.com website recommends. I will use 1/2" black pipe for that. The final question I am trying to work through is the lighting. I have outlets in the ceiling in 5 places over the workspace section of the garage. I plan on using 9 4' four bulb lights in that area of the garage. That will give me 36 T8 bulbs. The front section of the garage (car parking area) will have 4 more of the same lights.

There were some lights at Lowes that were about $67 that I kind of liked but I am not sure if there were better lights out there for the same or not much more money. I hear that the lights and HD and Lowes don't last very long but I am not sure if that is correct. Where would you guys buy your lights from? Is there a place online that offers good lights at reasonable prices? Thanks!

I have five of Lowe's four footers in my garage. They ran about $20 each and are the ones with the diffusers. So far they've lasted over three years!

i have 3 - 8' lights from lowes and they've been in my garage for almost 5 years. I haven't even needed to change a bulb and im in there a lot.

Darreld, do a search here for garage lighting. There is a really good thread somewhere about this!

IMO
I would choose for some light mounted on the ceiling but alot mounted on the wall at a height of aprox 7ft.
So there is enough light that goes " into " the car. :confu :confu

I kinda agree with Bruno, I have a couple lights hanging from the ceiling and almost always wish they were mounted like you see lights in a paint booth.

Yep , lights mounted on white walls is the way to go.
The white walls reflects the light so much , you need less armatures. ( said correct?)

You can see the lights that Jess's dad has in his garage. I think they are pretty cool. I would have put the retracktable things in the attic so you had a bunch of drop lights hanging from the ceiling, his are stationary. There are four of these fixtures hanging in the ceiling. He has his extension cord mounted that way with a retractable cord. (that's my bike on his lift....)

I went with the dual bulb 4' Lowes/HD electronic ballast fixtures, can't remember the brand now but they were only $25ish each. In my 1200sqft building I put in 21 of them for 42 T8 bulbs. They are on 3 switches so it doesn't have to be like the surface of the sun everytime. The fixtures are holding up great and I've only replaced 2-3 bulbs in about 5 years. The lighting and lack of shadows is awesome. Jeremy helped me with the layout and I thank him muchly, I would of put in less and had to use drop lights all over the place. I don't even know where my drop light is right now...
