Giving up on YOM CA Plates - Update not giving up!!!

Well the DMV has helped me decide to keep my personal plates and not go to YOM. The DMV clerk messed up the paperwork and didn't complete two questions, which were what was the base plate year and model year, those are obvious questions the reviewer in Sacramento would have known if he/she reviewed the paperwork and the copy of the plate what the answer was but they got rejected and took four months to get back to me.

None the less I say screw it I am going to keep the personal plates which match my forum name and will just keep the black and yellow plates for the future. I even bought a mint 67 sticker from Crusty! Damn!!!

Re: Giving up on YOM CA Plates

Hang in there. I feel your pain. When I went to get mine, the DMV clerk didn't fill out anything at the bottom under the section which says to be filled out by DMV. Two months later I get a rejection letter from Sacramento saying I have to go back to the local DMV office so they can fill out the paperwork. I go back, and they fill out the paperwork and resubmit it to Sacramento. Another two months later I get the registration and stickers.

Re: Giving up on YOM CA Plates

As cool as you having personalized plates that match your user name is, don't give up.

CA needs your money. LoL!

I just think its really cool to have the old black and yellow plates, a huge thanks goes out to Frank for making the old registration stickers, black and yellow plates available to us for the YOM program.

I bought a pair of plates from Frank and they are great, along with a original 65 sticker he restored. I have decided to use the original black and yellows that Fred came with, so the pair from Frank are hanging on the garage wall looking super cool, kind of sets the mood to get work done.

Justin,
I personally would go back and have it done correctly. I like black plates much better and would change out Red's plates but daughter told me to not go there.

You do what your supposed to do, the gov employee screws up and you end up getting shafted. I'd be one pi$$ed off honky.

YEP. what pi$$ed me off is when I went to the DMV the second time. I go to the desk to check in, and get a number to wait another hour or so. I explained to the lady the reason I'm there, and showed her my paperwork. The lady looks at it for a second and says that the DMV should have filled it the bottom part. This was the lady that originally helped me, and didn't have a clue since she had to go ask for help. And for once the brain kicked in before my mouth. I just said "yep". But what I wanted to say was (editted for content)..."Then why didn't YOU fill in the bottom part when I was here the first time you stupid :fbomb ^%$@#%$#"

Re: Giving up on YOM CA Plates

Hi Justin, would you consider getting a black/yellow personalized plate like JeffTepper and Garner67? As far as I know, the Poe-lice haven't hassled Jeff about it.

Already have them and that is what I plan on running. In fact I am the one who told Jeff about it. ;)

I may follow up at some point but I have spent hours on the phone just trying to figure out what happened, pretty poor system really.

These things are easy to find :craz

These were buried in the trunk of the 69 when we got it home.

Re: Giving up on YOM CA Plates

OK so an update! I went to DMV today without an appt. but had the day off. I waited 10 minutes to get to the front and explained that the clerk had filled out the paperwork wrong. The woman gives me a special ticket and I got to the front of the line. She must have felt I had done my waiting last time. Saved me at least an hour an a half or more! :pbj

The clerk was awesome canceled my last transaction and registered my new plates.

She completed all the fields and all looked good!

Here's to hoping my new tags arrive in a month or so! I will say DMV made an effort to make up for their mistake!

By the way these are new plates I bought on eBay a couple of weeks ago.

Looking good!

I can't image waiting in line that long. Everytime I've been, there's no line at all. I love small town living. :vic

I was pretty surprised, the line was out the door at 8:00 AM. It was a Monday so probably a bad day to go, all in all it went well.

+2

Registration/titling issues in NC are contracted out to local civilian owned "License Plate Agencies". When I walk into our local office there's rarely anyone waiting in line and the owner/Anna-Mae welcomes me by name.

I agree I did have an appt for Thursday but we are having a safety fence installed around the pool on Thursday and I didn't want to miss it, plus my new iphone is coming Thursday via Fed-Ex! As I said, all in all they really helped me out, I was in and out.

By the way, I am retaining my GTSCODE plates for now. Who knows if I ever found a 69 Sportroof with a 390 and a GT I would love it! Pretty rare considering the 428 and Mach One packages!

Good luck on this. I recently got my front old plate back from restoration and will prob do this in the next 2 weeks....
