I'm in Mendocino for a week right now and tomorrow I'll be trying free diving for the first time. Going to be looking to grab a few abalone. This should be interesting!

Beautiful area there. My folks lived in Boonville for about 12 years. Tons of shells in the area...or at least there were.
Turned out the waves were way too big to dive yesterday, so we had a barbeque instead at my boyfriend's ranch with his daughter and friends. We're going to try to dive today at low tide.

We're in Mendocino/Fort Bragg. Still too rough today, but they're going to put me in the water later at low tide to see if my wetsuit will keep me warm enough.
Wife and I camped out at Van Damme state park, a couple weeks ago. Very nice!
Do you have licenses for abalone fishing? I remember in San Diego a couple of decades ago that abalone were pretty much wiped out and very limited fishing was allowed for them...
We dove at Van Damme this afternoon. Came back with five abalone, one under the limit. We have both fishing licenses and abalone cards. You can take 3 a day, maximum 24 a year.
