Going to Atlanta, GA in a couple weeks

I have to head down to Hotlanta on the 23rd and will stay there until the 27th. Anything I should make it to of great interest? I'll be staying at the Ritz-Carlton, Buckhead and won't have a rental car. Is there anything near there or is it in the boonies?

Yeah, WTF's up with that?

I'll be in Scottsdale next month for 3 days and my arse sure as heck ain't stumbling anywhere.

Fixed it.

WTH??? no car?????? that's just crazy man.

Buckhead is in the north part of the city "proper" and "Inside the Perimeter" of I-285 that runs around the city.

You'll have access to the MARTA rail system, so you can get to a lot of places inside the city.

What's worth seeing? Well, The Aquarium seems to be a popular spot, and will be close to the rail line (Note, you'll still have to do some walking, or riding the bus)

I haven't been to "The WOrld of Coke" since they moved to the new location, but it was a fascinating museum, and a must see if you're at all a fan of sodas. I hear the new one is even better.

Stone Mountain is, well, a big hunk of granite (not on the Marta Line) that they built a state park around...very nice location, lots of cool things to do if you like the quieter pace of a nature park.

Hopefully Ryan will pipe in with some other ideas.

Atlanta is, without a doubt, a Car city. Trying to get around here without one, EVEN with MARTA access can be extremely frustrating. If one of my spare cars was in working order, I'd offer you a loaner, but the Mustang isn't ready, and my wife's 89 Cabriolet needs quite a bit of work before I'd wish it on anyone.

But let me know if you've got some free nights for dinner, or want to spend some time one weekend up in the Burbs and we'll try to hook up. Anything you need that I can provide, let me know.

That's a hella nice hotel.

Oops. Typo. I come in the evenign of the 23rd and leave the morning of the 27th. I'll have my wife so it needs to be SHMBO approved. We do have some friends in town that can hopefully entertain us for at least 1 evening. I'll be in a conference / appointments all wednesday and Thursday. So I will have Wed and Th evenings then all day Friday to dink around. Too bad it isn't during the Year One Experience. I would love to attend that some day.

It sounds like I should look at getting a rental car. Thanks for the ideas on what to do. I have been to Atlanta one other time but it was just to go to our friends wedding. One of those Fly in on Thursday and home on Sunday afternoon things.

I have heard the hotel is pretty awesome. The only reason I am staying there is becasue of the corporate/conference rate. Less than $200 a night which is about 1/2 the normal rate from what I understand.

I would definitely get a rental car. If you are a big spender, there are awesome restaurants right by your hotel.

As Steve mentioned, the Georgia Aquarium is worth seeing. The Punchline Comedy Club is always a good laugh too.

Atlantic Station has shopping and good food too.

The Varsity is a well known diner with a lot of history.

Summit Racing has a warehouse/showroom about 20 miles South of Atlanta in McDonough. Mustangs Unlimited is 20 miles NE in Lawrenceville.

There are plenty of ghettos in Atlanta too, so be careful, especially on foot.

Well we head off to ATL in a couple hours. My wife and her girlfriend have pretty much planned everything. The will be taking our friends kids to the aquarium one day. We will be spending quite a bit of time with them from what it sounds like. I would like to make it to the comedy club. I haven't been to one in years and thought it was a blast back then. We'll be taking the MARTA from the airport to the hotel and likely back again.

Thanks for the suggestions on things to do guys. Talk to you all this weekend! :ecit
