Goodbye GTO

A very bitter sweet day it is for me. As some of my local Mustang friends have known that I've had a lot of emotional issues owning the GTO. Seeing it every day and being afraid to drive it not wanting to hurt it.

This past couple months I have had it over at a friends showroom who stores very expensive European and American vintage cars with the idea that he would try to find me a buyer. I did not want to go through the hassles of posting it, dealing with tire kickers nor of auction houses.

Couple weeks ago I got a call that this agent has a customer who was looking for a 67 GTO to give to his brother as a wedding gift. This brother has apparently been drooling over these Pontiacs for quite some time.

After a week+ of talk we came to an agreement which I felt was good for both parties. The new owner lives in Taiwan but has a house here in the San Francisco Bay Area. Though I really don't want to see the car again, it only made sense for him to consider just keeping the car at my friends showroom who will pamper the crap out of it. Otherwise it will sit in a garage for weeks if not months on end. Too beautiful of a car for that to happen.

Nevertheless now I no longer have to worry about the car. It will be in good hands and I can put this issue behind me. Some might think that my brother would kill me for doing this but I feel he would never want to put such a burden on me.

Craig, as hard as it must be to let it go, you'll still have the great memories of the car and your brother. Since it will still be close, you can always go to the shop when you need to feel close to him.

I'm sure the car is going to a good home of someone who will appreciate and care for it. You've been a good steward while it's been in your posession.

Your brother left you that car so you can do as you saw fit. I am sure he sees no problems with you decision. You enjoyed the car and now it is for someone else to enjoy. That is the great thing about this hobby.....always changes for the better. Glad to hear you made a good decision.

Craig,

Glad you hear you've reached closure on the Goat.....

It is for the best, Buddy! I think you may be able to finally have closure... I am proud of you. You have taken a huge step.

I know how you feel, I kinda have some of the same issues going on with my brother. Different, but still the same emotions!

Good job, not do what your brother would want and have some peace in your mind!

Your brother left you that car, because he knew YOU would make the best decision on what to do with it. He would not want you fretting over the car for the rest of your life. I think you did make the best decision for you AND the car. Congratulations.

I really think your brother would be PROUD of the decision you made!!

I was unaware of the issues around the GTO but it sounds like it wasn't an easy decision.
It seems like you have come to some amount of closure on the subject and I wish you the best. Truly.

So crazy I saw a GTO this afternoon and was wondering what you were up to with yours.

I certainly enjoyed my ride in the Goat!!!

I'm happy to hear you can now close that chapter in your life. Not that it's easy to move on, but you have to do what's right for yourself and your family.

OH! I just love GTO's! I'm sorry to hear about this, but we only get to keep these materialistic things for so long, but the memories last forever! But I'd have to say, telling someone about a ride we had in our past, vs. taking them for a ride in it~ well, you know what I mean. I guess if we could each have a super large climate controlled garage and a somewhat unlimited source of funds, then we could keep them forever, like Jay Leno! :$$$

could you post a photo of it?
