Got a visit from Craig (tarafied) today

Craig came by today. He drove 3 1/2 hrs to come help me get my cowl back in alignment. We didn't take too many pics of the actual work because we were actually working :thu

Anyhow, he drove his car. For those who haven't seen it in person, pics don't do it justice, it is beautiful. I got to drive it :steer

Craig is a great guy and the kids are the best judges in the world of this. My little girl said that he was a good person lol.

We did get alot accomplished on the car. It took some rachet straps to get it back in line and a ton of screws, but it's ready for tear down and epoxy primed then final weld.

We got the panels aligned where they should be. I'm tickled on the progress and got the bug to get it done especially after driving Craigs 67.

I can't express my gratitude to Craig for coming over and helping me figure out this cowl issue :wor :wor :wor He's pretty handy in these matters :beer

yeah Craigs' aren't all bad!
I just got home and took a shower. I gotta hit the sack but just had to check the fix!
I had a great day. Bill and his family are great. I really enjoyed working with him and after I played a game of HORSE and then "tag your it" Man am I tired! The kids wore me out more than working on the car!
Bill has done a lot on the car and it has a way to go but I feel pretty good about what we were able to do today. He is doing a great job on it and I'm impressed all that he has been able to do bu himself.
It is a bit of a drive but well worth it. I'm looking forward to get together with Bill and his family again.
Bill gave me a rebuildable T5 and some other goodies for the Falcon too!

Thanks Craig. The kids really enjoyed you playing with them. You got to post up some pics tomorrow, I know you took a few also. I forgot I had a camera, with all the head scratching were doing to get this thing right lol.

Here are a few that I took. Like Bill said we were almost too busy to take pics or we didn't want evidence of our hillbilly methods!

Very cool! Looks like a fun time, Craig the coupe looks amazing as always, and the fastback is looking better every time I see it!

thanks, Bill has done a great job on the fastback. There are just sometimes you need an extra set of hands and his little helpers are bit too small yet! Although his little girl stole my heart.
I walked up to the garage first thing and she came to say hi and gave me a hug! After his "little" boy (who is quite solid) whipped up on me playing basket ball (a game of horse) he said I was his best friend!
Anyway, Bill has got all the panels lined up now pretty good so he can start prepping and welding the cowl and firewall. I think he is going fly now!
This web site has allowed me to meet so many cool people and their families. Even though we are spread out I am very grateful fo be a part of it all!

Thanks. It's starting to look like a car again. I'm stoked to get this cowl and firewall finished.

They are something else. They are really friendly. I've been talking about you coming all week, so they were looking forward to it also.
I wanted to do some welding on it today, but I need a day off. Been going strong with work for a few weeks now, and just need a day to lay around. Today seems like the perfect day lol.
I did throw the upper cowl on there. The fenders are hitting in the same spot we had to massage the lower cowl, but that's because it sitting high on the screws. I snapped a pic for my new sig pic.

Looks great Bill!
I hope you don't mind me sharing another neet thing, Sam Griffith Jr gave me a set of hood hinges when I modified one of his filler necks. I already had a set for the drag car but we needed some to put the hood on Bill's car for alignment purposes. I passed on those hinges so Sam has helped another Mustanger! Bill actually received some new ones the very day I was there but we used Sam's. Sam lives on.

I don't mind at all, I was grateful that you passed them on to me. I'm honored to have a part of Sam on my car. He did a great job rebuilding these, they are smooth as silk. The dynacorns will go back to CJ for trade on something else.

Craig came back out today to help me finish the cowl area. We got the lower cowl in and welded. We tried to get to the upper cowl, but ran out of time today. I'll finish the upper cowl next chance I get and then that area will be done.

we had a productive day, but I got there late so we started late.
Bill's car wanted to expand or stretch so we had to use some redneck engineering which included cutting some junk fenders for access. This allowed us the set the gap at the doors and weld the lower cowl while it was lined up.

Craig, I doing some pondering last night. I think after the upper cowl is welded in, I think these will finish holding the front from wanting to lean out

Do you think these small little pieces are going to be what's needed to hold everything in place???

Bill

well I didn't have to remove the cowl on my car so I may have underestimated it's structural importance. On my buddies 65, we didn't have the kind of issue you are having but we did the cowl and firewall before the frame rails, then a full one piece floor (pics below). I'm hoping when it's all tied together it will be very solid again.

It definitely has a ton of structural importance. I think it will be fine once I the upper cowl in and those pieces tied into the apron. Heck, it if that don't hold it, I may rig it back up like we've been doing and do something like this...

I don't want to have to go that far, but I've decided that those perfect gaps that we were able to get are what I need to achieve with the cowl and if I can't get them with the factory metal, I'll add some of my own lol.

Bill

I agree, the gaps looked great when it was tied down, and DS still looked good. I think you are right, once you tie the remaining support together with the upper cowl and those peices it won't want to stretch any more
