graduation gift

We have been invited out to dinner for a high school graduation. Our friends daughter is graduating, I plan on giving money as a gift, any idea what amount would be appropriate? Been a long time since we have had this occassion.
 
I'd say $50 is about right. That is unless you have a relationship with the daughter as well. If close to her too, I'd pass over a $100. Then again, you don't say what kind of dinner you'd be attending. If a nice place you should up the ante.

Waiting to hear others responses to find out if I'm cheap or not! :shrug
 
My son graduated last week. $100 was the norm from immediate family, $50 from close friends.
 
My grandson got $100 from us, and as stated, $50 from non family members......for a grand total of $1200.00.........and he still won't buy breakfast....lol
 
Just asked my daughter who granulated last year: 50 to 500 was her payday. The point is the minimum from friends was 50 bucks.

you also have to consider what type of place the dinner is at. If it's an expensive intimate place, you might pad the envelope a bit more. I always take into consideration what I would have to pay for my and the wife to have a comparable dinner. That and how close of a friend they are and that dictates what I give.

In a related note, I have 100 people coming over this Sat for my oldest daughters 8th grade graduation. What a pain!

Just had this discussion tonight with the Mrs. Her cousins kid graduated and she wanted to give $200 my jaw dropped!!!! We settled on $100.
