Granada Swap Tie Rods 66 Manual Steering

I am assembling the parts to do a granada disk swap on my 66 coupe with manual steering and was wondering which outer tie rods to buy; 70 mustang or Granada? I have heard that the threads may require timming on the granada tie rods to achieve proper toe. Is this true for the 70 mustang tie rods also? I plan to replace the tie rods anyways so would Mustang Steve adapter bushings be a better alternative?

Thanks,

Dan

I did the package from CSRP that had the granada outers and sleeves. I don't know if v8 sleeves work or not. I have an original I6 car and went with v8 steering components up to the sleeves. Sleeves on out are granada parts.

I just look up replacement sleeves; Granada and 66 Mustang use different sleeves. Guess I'll buy granada replacements and compare their lengths to what is on my car.

You can use 70-73 Mustang outer tie rods with Granada spindles. If the adjusting sleeves are too long and you can't get enough toe in, just trim an equal amount off each side of the sleeve.

speaking of tie rods, anyone know the formula for piecing together swedged-tube/rod end tie-rods to replace the stockers?

The rod ends and tubing would be easy, its the pin that is tricky. I've never found a supplier of the correct taper pin for the Mustang spindles. For instance, I'm pretty sure Baer is making the pins for their Tracker...

Make sure you get the roller idler arm from shaun. It makes a world of difference at low speed turns on my 66. :coo

If the sleeves were too long you'd have plenty of toe in, wouldn't you?

I wouldn't advise cutting down adjusting sleeves, since you might be cutting threads off. . .

Sorry, meant toe out.

Why not cut the sleeves? Have you seen how much thread is in those things? Maintain 1.5xdia. engagement and you'll be fine.
