Granite counter tops - pricing?

Hey guys - the wife and I are looking to put granite counter tops in our kitchen, but only on the breakfast bar area. So essentially we would need two 5' long by 1.5' wide pieces of granite installed (need two pieces b/c the breakfast bar is like an almost flattened out V shape).

Any thoughts on how much this would cost - a few hundred? a grand? a couple grand? I haven't the foggiest idea, and would like some "thoughts" before I call someone in for a quote.

Thanks! :craz

This is not our kitchen, but the breakfast bar area is similar (except this one has three granite pieces, and we need only two):

Did my parents bathroom counters with Caesar Stone (fake granite) and it was pretty pricey. I want to say it was $70-80 sq.ft. which is about comparable to granite prices around here. Looks great though.

When I was doing a cabinet project at my house a couple years ago and ran across a remninant piece of slab granite that is exactly what we were looking for. I was about 8' long and 2' deep for about $700 (two pieces 4" long). Call around to local granite places and see if they have some screw ups. The piece I got was for a kitchen they put the sink in the wrong place.

Nice kitchen, how's about a picture of the ocean view?

Like I put before the pic, that's not our kitchen, but it would be nice!!! As for the ocean view - we have a great view now in our apartment which is one block away from the beach and mighty Pacific. Sadly when we move into our townhouse, we won't have a view anymore. But we're only moving three blocks "inland", so the sandy beach is still just four easy-to-walk blocks away! We haven't closed on the house yet, so wish us luck!

And thanks for the tips on the granite and ceasarstone - pretty cool (and expensive!) stuff!

I just got a granite countertop installed in our master bath. It's 67"x25" with a 3" backsplash, and two undermount sinks. It was $823 installed (including the sinks), and that was the contractor price that a friend of mine got for me.
