Guidelines for New Motor Break-In

DEL65

Of The Morons
Currently has 10 miles on it. Other than 'drive-it for a few weeks', my engine builder had no other rules for the break-in period. He knows I'll be driving locally and won't be running it hard...yet.

IIRC, city driving is good for a while (because of the varying rpms), and avoid highway driving with sustained rpm's. Any other info for a successful break-in? Thanks.

Mark.....he said break IN......not break.....

However, that site has some good info.

When I've done a break in, I drive them like I stole them!

People disagree with me but all the engines I have ever rebuilt have lasted 100k or more.

The one time I drove one around town and easy it lasted 30k and threw a rod.

After a good priming and firing to get timing, etc. set have at it. Don't red line it but don't baby it either. Good to vary engine speed as well for first few hundred miles.

If you're gonna break something break it early while you are staying near the house!!! Otherwise you have to trailer it home from the track or Cornfeed.
