Haven't done my Christmas shopping yet...

...starting Christmas shopping tomorrow. How many other procrastinating Santa's do we have? My wife always marvels how men can calmly wait until almost the day prior and still get-r-done.

Re: Haven't done my Christams shopping yet...

I did about 90% yesterday since I was off work. I always wait until the week before and take a day of vacation from work and get it done, or at least most of it.

Although I started a bit earlier this year (last week) I actually prefer to wait until the near last minute. I tend to have a hard time calling enough is enough and keep buying until the stores close Christmas Eve. By starting late I keep myself from going to far overboard (very much the same problem I have with my car!).
This year I actually did the majority of my buys on-line and think next year I will be doing it exclusively that way. I didn't have to pay for shipping on anything and got some great deals on stuff I know would have been hard to find at a local store this late in the game. Everything I bought I received within a day or two. Hard to beat although for some sick reason I do kinda like the "crush" felt at the malls this time of the year.

I have a hard time buying for the wife, she enjoys buying Christmas gifts so I let her, I still haven't gotten her anything. For the last few years we have taken a name off of a local banks tree and bought for a needy kid, that is a pretty good feeling, each year the kid has had clothes listed, so far we have bought near all of the things they have listed, one year the kid wanted winter boots and gloves.

About buying online I do buy through the year quite a bit like that also, people my fathers age probably can not believe how much times have changed (he is 79) and was born at home in rural Illinois. buying from a sears catalog was a thing of marvel in his youth, getting mail was a treat, you might go to town once a week to buy staples, on the farm back then you raised your own meat and canned your garden produce. even the changes I have seen are pretty amazing, I do remember a teacher in junior high saying someday we would use plastic cards instead of cash. I wonder what 30 years will bring? no more malls? 90 percent of purchases online ? what happens when you take retail out of the workforce? I kind of got offline on this post--sorry

Great question, and we'll know sometime soon as on-line buying keeps getting bigger and bigger each year. I dont know what the answer is, but i do know it's hard for me to justify spending gas driving all over town when I can get the item cheaper with just a click of the mouse. But over Christmas, I usually make it out to the big stores - just seems normal I guess.

Well not to dwell on the quick hijack, but one of my daughters works in the tech support with Amazon.com, so maybe that is where it is going? She got the job because she types 120 wpm and spent 11 years working in our Computer store on every part of the business including tech support. So she may only be 20, but she already has 11 years experience.

Anyway the OP was about Christmas shopping late. Well I am done, bit only finished last week or so. I sure miss the days when we were done in late September to early October. When we would drive to my Dad's in Oregon from Brawley, CA for Turkey Day we would do some of the big stuff up there. No sales tax. One year we bought the girls new bikes. Funny to see three new bikes under the tree. Oh, SWMBO surprised me with a new one too. Well, I got her one as a surprise too. So there was three biles under the tree and one was delivered Christmas eve and hidden on our driveway (SWMBOs).

Now we don't even start looking until the week after Turkey day. Next year we will do it when we go on vacation in October.

When is Christmas? You mean I should think about shopping already? :barf

Actually, I learned myself a lesson last year. I'm always a Christmas eve shopper. My one nephew expects a Hess truck from me yearly which is usually easy enough. Well, the trucks were popular last year and sold out. I ended up paying $85 for a $25 truck! I did buy the Hess race car early this year and even bought a second to try and screw someone like I got screwed last year.... Well they are not selling out this year........ BAH HUMBUG!

I've been out shopping Christmas eve (day) before...what fun inventing new curse words! I'm done as of today, which is ahead of schedule for me and I don't stress out over it.

I haven't started shopping yet. My Dad used to take me out on Dec 23rd every year to get a present for my Mom, so I've been trained from an early age to be a Christmas Procrastinator.

I will probably wait until Wednesday. As much as I hate shopping/crowds, I just can't seem to function without my near Christmas Eve
mutant "Star Wars Bar Scene" encounter.

By the time It's all over I'll need some Advil and some Stoli. :lol

SWMBO does most of the shopping. I only have to shop for her and maybe a few surprises for the girls.Which is done on Christmas Eve.

99.9% online; except this one...

I'd like to say that it went into the garage without a hitch, but it didn't... It's for my son and when it moves again, it's his problem.

Nice safe Stump. I just got wood. Anyone looking for a 36er needs to check out Tractor Supply or Dicks. TS has a Cannon 36er for a grand and I just saw in the sale paper today Dicks has their Stack-On Elite 36er on sale this week for........you ready............yes it's fireproof and all the goodies....sitting down.......$749.00. If I didn't have two already I'd be all over that. Stump, one word: ROLLERS. PVC pipe or something to roll it on. Keep moving 'em in front when they roll out the back. No tilting and easy turns.

Shopping. I have agreed for the past 4 years to a method that makes my wife feel like I'm participating and takes up half a day AND avoids crowds. The Thursday before Thanksgiving is our Christmas shopping day. She knows to have a list and tell me which stores we're going to. We buy. Done by noon. Grab lunch. She's happy. We usually end up needing a couple gift cards which I pick up. I'm responsible for her, a few close friends, a present from mom to dad. Hers I'll pick up the week before Christmas. Dad's gift from mom requires a visit to the gun store. No sweat there. 90% of the friend's gifts are bought in early November at a knife store. The rest are gift cards. If it weren't for my wife, everyone would get a gift card. She knows that and came up with the above remedy. It works very well. She feels like I'm involved, I do nothing but drive.

Yep, tried rollers before and they worked great, inside the house. In this case my wife and I had to take it off the truck, across the gravel, up the inclined entrance, and finally into the garage. I will never move that safe again. He can either leave it there, or find help moving it; I'll be there to advise...

It's a 64 gun Liberty. $1,500.00 from The Big Blue Store. More than I would normally spend on a present but since he was deployed for the last two Christmas' we figured it would average out...
